Very strange "speedmaster" concoction appeared in one of my searches. What part bins is it made up from, especially the case, is there four or five watches in there? Rest of photos here http://auction.catawiki.com/kavels/2161247-omega-speedmaster-year-1971-caliber-861
Somebody has really leaned hard on the buffing wheel. Take a close look at the back. One of the notches is very shallow. Bidding is up to 900E for this catastrophe.
Hallo everybody I am the owner and seller of this"omega catastrophe " This watch has been controlled, checked and certified by Ferry Schweitzer ( one of the few officially certified Omega specialists ) see: Google He told me: " yes it is a very unusal watch but 100% made by Omega" If forum members want to mail me, please do so. [email protected] I mail you with an answer and with the original certificate . Thanks in advance Henk
Hi The Case came out of the factory looking like this....and with the correct dial fitted Best - Neil
Well it looks like it was a 105.003 dial - I am guessing some alternative to the 321 feet is used to attach it to the 861 movement. A 321 has bigger feet, so the hope of them being intact and usable might be the explanation why this watch has been bid to this. It is an assembly, a true frankenwatch. Dial from one reference, hands from, er well at least some of them are Omega - just never originaly on this watch, or this model. The case must still be sweating from the going over it must of had - I am curious that the builder managed a sunburst finish on the back, but decided on a mirror up top. It is a bit of fun. Nothing else. At least no one has mentioned the "P" word, yet.
Ok Omega friends, pleae read carefully... This watch is 100% original but Omega made a mistake and let it go. It was a mistake in production. Please read ( in Dutch) what Ferry Schweitzer tells me. Ferry Schweitzer is since 1970 certified Omega specialist ( one of 4 in Holland) and he knows all about it as he visits the Omega factory all months ( for 45 years ) regards Henk
As @Spacefruit pointed out, that dial and movement are not compatible a production mistake would be pretty much impossible, unless a rogue Omega employee started modding dial feet.
Not only is this watch an after factory assembly the parts are not in good shape - overpolished case, tired dial with a large subseconds hand that doesn't even look like an original omega part and some movement parts that appear to have lost the plating.
Hmmm..... to me it looks like a one off special order for the late great Kazoo for his journeys back and forth from space to Bedrock. But you are right on one thing it was a production mistake. A very big mistake by who ever produced it.
Wait so you are telling me that Omega just happened to grab a pre-pro Speedmaster dial and then say "Hey look at the feet! Let's custom work these legs so they fit a different later movement when in fact these two parts are YEARS apart in manufacturing. MAKES SENSE TO ME....unless this is a transitional seamaster 145.024......
I am and I apologize. Not believing one of 4 experts in Holland is worse than believing we walked on the moon.
