SP168,024 in need of experts

Hi there,

I recently was interesting in diversifying my 'collection' and stumbled upon a lot of occasions in the Omega region (thus my joining in the forum and my post in the Photography section about a King Seiko 44-9990 馃槈 ).
But a lot of them aren't what would would expect even for a wearer.

I found this one which seems interesting with my little knowledge on vintage seamaster. I did check up the database (https://database.omegaaddict.com/members/display.php?mode=display&watchID=859) and it seems so far to match. Only down side is that there is no picture of the inside of the case back.

Perhaps the dial is too clean and the date numbers are too bold? I don't really know

Again if you have any particular links for vintage documentation (bracelets, official crystal logos etc...) I'd be the happiest person on earth. Still trying to make my way in the labyrinth on posts here 馃槈

Thanks for your valuable opinion!

I'd like to bring another question : it seems to me that some have cyclops some other don't. Is it something normal? Are cyclops replacement crystals ?

Others may comment on condition, etc., but I'll mention that a google search of 'omegaforums.net 166.010 168.024' yields many useful results 馃摉. With discussion of things like the crown, crystal, dial variants, and so on. The 166.010 is the non-chronometer grade version. These are nice Seamaster models -- worth some research 馃榾.

Capped auction at 1.6K usd. We are not there yet

I don't think I'd want to pay that price considering it has been polished and there still is some mist on the case back inside IF indeed everything seems original

OK, good luck. Here on the forum, they generally sell for somewhat less than $1600 USD.

It's definitely something I might consider either want a additional 'static' piece in perfect condition (that I won't wear) or just as an upgrade.

This would not be my choice as an investment piece, because it is so incredibly common.

I never really think about the investment side of things with watches.
All my purchases are either because I like the watch and it was a good deal or I like the watch and it is historically meaningful or all 3.

I am not knowledgeable enough about Omega yet to make any 'investment' move. This 168.024 seems to me after the few comments that it'd be a nice entry to Omega Vintage which then I'll build up knowledge on top of it and discover more.

This is what happened with the KS 44-9990 and I now know what to look for and what to be careful of in that region 馃槈

You mentioned buying a perfect watch to set aside and not wear. So I assumed you were thinking of it as an investment, but perhaps you just like to collect perfect things. I also collect some pristine watches and don't wear them, but I usually limit that to references that I think are truly special in some way (ok, not always, but usually). For me, the 168.024 is a nice watch, but a fairly common workhorse, so I'm not sure why someone would choose to seek out a perfect example to set aside, but that's obviously a personal decision.

Anyway, you seem like you're on the right track, so good luck with the auction. The 168.024 and other similar models show up quite often for sale on the forum. Many of us will probably be listing watches in January, after the craziness of the holidays ends.

Well, it went above my initial target.

Got couple other watches instead that were a total bargain. I'll post pics in the upcoming weeks when I receive them 馃槈

I'll keep an eye out on the forum's listings next year.

I don't think so, I think it's just in extraordinarily good original condition.

I think it's unfortunately that everyone always seems to assume the worst. Even if it was refinished, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Nothing wrong with wanting to wear a watch in very good condition.

I stay away from professional photographed watches, not because the watches are bad, but they usually somehow fetch 2X market values

I have the silver gilt version of this watch but I really don't fancy the case design myself, it really didn't grow on me - interestingly the serial is 166.010 on my version, if you like the case, it's another serial to go after

It definitely felt weird to have such nicely composed pictures without the quality you usually expect from them.

The 166.010 is another one that'd be easy to source from Japan but I do fancy the extra text on the 564 variant.

That's the "case number". 166.010 is the non-chronometer version; the two references share the same case. I include pics of my two for reference purposes. Note that the stainless version has been refinished to correct someone's bad attempt.

Does $1K7 mean $1700 USD? If so, that's quite surprising, and I feel that someone over-paid.
