Went for approx $1K7 before taxes and shipping
Yeah, that’s a bit steep. There was a nice one here that recently sold for about 1200 usd, and it was serviced.

Does $1K7 mean $1700 USD? If so, that's quite surprising, and I feel that someone over-paid.

It does.

Here is the listing https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/t1075963243

I agree and I'll definitely get one from here next year.

Spent my budget on other cool pieces that definitely were nice deals instead!

I don't understand what happened in that auction, maybe there was some funny business. They routinely sell on YJ for substantially less than that, and it's pretty easy to find them in good condition. It's such a common reference, I would imagine there are auctions ending every single day. The condition of that one was above average IMO, but not excellent, because of the case-back. Also, keep in mind that if you are in the US, buying on YJ through a proxy bidder is risky business. No returns under any circumstances, even blatant fraud. So factor some risk into the price you're willing to pay.

Perhaps someone was bidding against himself to drive prices higher to the buyout price.

It did smell fishy.

But I am not surprised either, YJ has the best but also the most scammy auctions.

Do you guys have a "whitelist" of vendors there ?

EDIT: I definitely factor in the risk. The proxy I am using does not have any after sale service but does pack as you would expect. And as EU citizen we do have tons of taxes and taxes on top of taxes.

But I am pretty used to it, and so far touching wood

There are many good-condition 168.024 chronometer SMs on YJ that I would buy before this one for around $1.2K. I think it’s not unlikely the OP watch is redialed and without an original crown I can’t see any reason to pay a premium for it. $1.7K is a super-clean, original crown price for the 165.010/166.010/168.024 family, in my opinion. You might as well get it from a dealer for a little extra plus peace of mind.

Interesting discussion. I was following the auction too and was surprised it went for that much.

Could the members suggesting a redial point to the telltales please? I thought that one was genuine. Thanks.

It’s possible that the text on the face is exaggerated by the photo processing to boost the contrast in the head-on shot of the dial. All of the photos are overexposed and there are no clear views at all of the top left part of the dial. The text looked to me to be too heavy to be OK at first, but the serifs and markers seem to be correct.

As I was going through the sellers feedback I came across two other listing for the same watch with exactly the same photos, was enough for me to stay away.

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/t1075963243
https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w1071419491
https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/v1053776523

The description on the most recent one mentions a cyclop dome as opposed to the first listing.

Perhaps he's still delivering the watch but the pics aren't matching any 😕

Well I ended up far from the original model I was looking for.

Eventually I stumbled a 70s cliché that I immediately felt in love with.

Can't wait to see it in person and see what it is all about.
