Yes it was indeed magic @mr_yossarian! But even more magic was 'where the fakk' that referee found those 5 minutes of injury time on some 'piss pot' Hublot time piece! :D

Went to a country club bar for lunch - got there 30 minutes before the kitchen opened. The game was on the big screen and I think the score was 1-1 but my wife made us leave and find somewhere else to eat. So I missed it.

The whole penalty time concept in soccer is silly.

Just stop the clock like they do in every other sport with a time clock.

Why wasn’t that a penalty at the beginning of the game also?

Germany should be good enough to win without that kind of help.

Despite all the above, that was a pretty amazing shot.

PK to Sweden for that foul in the box in the first half would have been justifiable. Awarding the free kick to Germany with 30 seconds left for a flop was criminal. The stupid thing about replay is it is for when they call a PK, but they do not seem to use it if there was no PK called. I suspect that will change in 4 years.

I usually admire Germany's play, but they are definitely lacking this time, and they owe the ref a $1 mil USD payoff for not calling the PK and for giving them the late free kick. They should have been packing for home after that game, instead of essentially making it into the next round.

In Australia, Australian Rules Football (AFL) does stop the clock when a player has taken the ball with a catch in the goal shooting area, and then resumes once the player has started their run up to take their kick. Other stoppages also force the clock to stop.

What they introduce is "Time On" which occurs about 20 minutes into a quarter which sort of "recovers" the time "blown off" during earlier periods of the game. While most stoppages still have the clock stopped, catches in the goal shooting area do not stop the clock during "Time On." This can make for some exciting matches as spectators at the ground do not know how much time is left a quarter, only the elapsed time. It can alsl make a boring game when a player on the leading team takes a mark while shooting for goal and purposely holds it up to chew up time (as coaches have access to how much time is left.)

In all flavors of North American football (American and Canadian) the clock is stopped whenever play is stopped. Change of possessions, injuries, and resetting the play after an out-of-bounds play all stop the clock. A 60 minute game means 60 minutes of playing time, not whatever the referee wants.

There is no advantage for teams to take extra time on a throw-in or flop for injury time.

And people wonder why many Americans think international professional soccer is boring and corrupt.

There's definitely been a few instances where probable penalty kicks have not been called, waved off by the VAR, and others where it's been contentious/dubious.

I just try to watch as a neutral and not get caught up in the conspiracies and "what ifs," simply because life is there to be lived and this is but one small blip in a whole lifetime, especially if you're not directly involved.

The VAR is meant to reduce controversy, but it has just shifted it. Usage needs to be fine tuned.

The non penalty was unlucky for Sweden, but the late free kick was totally justified. Don’t give easyvchances away. Ask Pique

My opinion. They should stop this replay thing. They should leave it as before. Feel like that’s part of the excitement with futbol. This whole thing of being able to review if it’s a penalty kick and change the ruling sucks. But that Kroos goal was cruel. Man. Loved it.

So far Real Madrid players are making the difference to their national teams. I bet he has done same free kick million times during RM training sessions....At least it looked so easy.
Also, what a game by Swiss team......
