·This is what happens when you try to justify your obsession to your spouse. You have nobody to blame but yourself, and the sooner you realize that you need to increase your budget the sooner you'll find the right watch.
So for reference, here are pics of some Tudor's like @Darlinboy and @ICONO are talking about - damn you guys these are awesome and you are making this much harder for me!!! Now I am trying to think about what watches I am not going to buy for myself so she can have one of these! The blue or crimson one show would go nuts over.
Here you go. 36mm, automatic, already beaten up so she won't feel bad when she smacks it on a mixer...
If that doesn't say "I love you", what does?

Nice!! I will run that one by her. So far she has the taste for the vintage style divers- she loved that blue 80's Tag in the second post, and I would have jumped on it but it has some issues.
And the mixer thing is no joke, anyone who has ever been around a Hobart commercial mixer can attest to what happens when you drop a 20qt bowl on your foot
Believe me, I know. I worked in a lot of commercial kitchens when I was a ski bum, and it's a tough environment for a watch.
How about the SKX013? Perfect for a beater and great for borrowing!
Something from the Seiko 2205 range perhaps?
Longines made some nice ladies divers.
Also the Squale City is midsize.
