    Hi!

A good friend of mine just landed this one in a swap deal.
Any thoughts on it, or information would be great. Some we know, but I have not seen the case style before, but I am sure others have;) !

It is known as a omega 56 military watch, a military recased 1940s Omega. Nice desirable military watch. Other 56s include Jeager too. Recased in 1956.
    Thanks Mick

Could be? I have to ask the current owner to examine it in his microscope. That will normally reveal the truth.

Knowledge and experience are more important than a microscope.

The logo and that OMEGA say it all.

He will see that. Collector over the past 20 years with one of the nicer vintage collections I have seen in a long time. Trying
to bring him into this forum. He has loads of lovely old Omegas and Zeniths and a lot more.
    Thanks for advice!

It is a classic Omega Military wristwatch made only in the year 1956. In that year, the British MOD decided to re-case its old war-time Omega watches with the highly regarded and reliable 30T2 movements in their RAF 6B/159 spitfire pilots watches. The movements are chronometer rated. In 1956 these watches were officially re-dialled by the famous re-diallers, Bill & Sons and re-cased in a new, larger screw-back case by the equally famous and highly regarded case-makers, Dennison. Most of these WW2 watches were re-dialled in black but a few, like this one, were done in white. These white dial versions are much rarer and prized by military collectors and this is the nicest one we have seen and in superb, all correct condition. For more information on these rare military watches please see British Military Timepieces by Konrad Knirim where they are discussed on pages 684-668.

Edit: take it or leave it but I found this Info from a friend/collector.

    Have you an
Do you have a picture of the back of this watch, it would be interesting to compare it with the original posting's back.
I have seen these '56 re-cased watches before and this watch dial above appears to be in a far higher league in terms of quality to the original posting.
I have also never seen a dial with the word 'Swiss Made' so prominent?

I shall have a search for you, many months ago my images decided to reorganise themselves and unfortunately :( the piece is away at service at the moment.

I do have a case back to compare, looks pretty much the same:

    SAM_0883.JPG

Unfortunately in my case (no pun intended) it contains a wrong movement (Cal. 463); as far as I know all the recased movements should have central seconds.
Actually most of the hits I found on the internet regarding this movement and dial suggest that these should be from a german WW2 watch.
    I love my Franken anyway.

I think consensus can be made that the dial has been reworked at some point. Still a cool looking watch in great shape.
I guess if someone have a "correct" dial available you are free to PM me and I may set up a direct contact.
It has been a true joy to observe all helpful hints and tips! As a side note my post on the Military Watch Forum has had far less useful input.

    Cheers!
