··Omega Qualified WatchmakerOne thing I do like to do is take pictures - I'm certainly no pro, but I used to spend quite a lot of time behind the camera taking nature photos. These days 99% of my photos are taken while servicing watches, and it's not uncommon for me to snap 100 photos per day - not a lot of time to do much else in the way of taking photos unfortunately.
This morning we had a bit of a treat here - it was -15 C when I woke up and the conditions were right for a Hoar frost. Looking outside the trees were sparkling with frost - if you have never seen this it is quite amazing.
It's impossible to capture the true glow of the frost in the trees when backlit by the sun, but this gives you a small tatse:
I put on several layers of clothing, and froze my butt off outside for a while taking a few shots...I have photographed this before, but this one was one of the best I've ever seen in terms of the length of the crystals - almost no wind, and this gave the crystals a chance to grow quite long:
Some closer shots show the incredible detail:
Even the snow on the ground had frost on it, but quite difficult to photograph. Within 30 minutes of taking these, the wind picked up and it looked like it was snowing for a while as the frost fell from the branches of all the trees. All gone now, but it was beautiful out there this morning.
Cheers, Al
