Outstanding. Legendary find. Best local find in recent memory, if not ever. Congrats.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind hearing a longer version of the story. After all, it’s basically a once in a lifetime occurrence.

So three years ago I went into the largest local jewelry store to check out their used watches. They had a fake Fortis compressor dive watch, the eBay special, and I let them know. Their watchmaker came out and said it was real since the rotor was signed...I was shocked at his lack of knowledge.

I went to their website when I got home, and send an email to the customer service letting them know that they a fake watch in the showcase, and I didn't want them to get crosswise with a client since they have such a stellar reputation.

I got an email from the owner's son thanking me, and we ended up going out to lunch. I told him that if they ever got anything special, to let me know...I would buy it or would know someone who would.

I've stopped in over the years and said hello to the manager.

On Friday the son sent me an email about a rare watch...I let him know I was interested and wanted to take a look on Saturday if they were around in the morning as I had to leave by noon for a trip. I heard back from Sat afternoon and he said that he was traveling until the 25th, but the manager would be more than happy to show it to me on Monday.

I met him at 11:30 and we worked the deal.

Pretty painless, other than the sinking feeling in my stomach for what I had to shell out😟

So now comes the blood letting...some primo pieces will come to the block.🍿

Amazing how quickly it came together and I’m impressed at your ability to confidently put a value on it. I can understand the butterflies in your stomach but as you know, opportunities like this just don’t happen. Just incredible. Good for you that you cultivated that relationship and were ready to pounce when the opportunity arose.

Absolutely stunning and what a catch, I would love to hear more on who was the owner and how he bought it in the first place. This one has been around...

Wabi...f..ing...Sabi! I must confess, most of the time when I see this old stuff, I just don't get the premium. That Tudor sub that went for over $100K a few year back. (looked like crap frankly) But this set is just fantastic. Now will you find someone to conserve/stabilize the bakelite? Will you wear this? In its current state I'd fear loosing more of the insert. Congrats! It pays to be nice to people. Golden rule exhibit A!

Quite nice. I'm curious what you would do with a watch like this. Leave it as is, or...?

The only thing I could imagine touching would be the crystal.

It’s quite beaten up but hey it’s a 1958 and I always feel that it’s part of the charm,
