and seriously, he's had it like 4 or 5 years and we both somehow forgot about it until I went over to see him today and he plopped this on the counter. I was obviously surprised and happy to have it back. And yes, it was serviced and as I recall it needed nothing else.

So I took it home and started playing with my cheap-o macro lens that clips onto the iphone.

Can you guys tell me if this is a correct crown for this 168.005? Need to know before I put it on the block. I've seen a few different types of crowns and don't know what's right..

Thanks! Yeah, the gold/onyx markers make it for me.

nice watch, but I doubt that the movement has freshly made service as it is full of lint.

Yes, it was serviced and put away for a few years. I noticed the lint and blew it out pretty easily. Should have done it before the pics.

It should have a thin decagonal crown. Nice dial!

+1 on the thin decagonal, the crown it currently has is still nice and has some value, though. They aren’t that easy to find.

Well as luck would have it, after ssq told me what I needed, I did a bit of rifling through the Omega portion of the closet and found an old weather beaten example with the plating worn thin. So easy to pop the stem on these babies. And here we are!

All clearances are good. But the thing is a bit of a pia to wind...

Yup. Doesn’t get much worse than these. 😁

Isn’t there a chain of thought that the OP crown may be correct for these?

Looks like the original yellow case back seal, I’d be kinda keen to replace that when servicing it

I’m not saying “definitely not”, but for a later 168.005 I’d be surprised - still, would be happy to learn. 14381/14393 are a different story, of course, they’re known to have come with both styles of crowns.

Beautiful dial.

The thin scalloped crown has been seen on early doglegs but whilst this is a period crown, it’s not the thin variety seen mainly on 14381s/14393s.

I noticed the yellow gasket too @dsio.
Whilst it’s been serviced previously it could definitely do with regulating - so perhaps a new service could fix both things.

I have a very similar crown on my 167.005.

IMO, it is not original, but it is vintage and it is Omega. And I can actually wind it and set the time.

My guess is that the original owner got tired of his fingers slipping and replaced it early on.

Nobody’s perfect.

Agreed, and I wouldnt mind too much myself. OP asked if it's the correct crown, though, and without any jpersonal preferences I believe it is not.

Now looking at the four pieces I picked up from him yesterday, this one may not have been serviced. It may be the one that needed a cannon pinion only. I have two other watches I picked up from him yesterday that were definitely serviced and have new case gaskets.

He and I both got sidetracked and he's had these for about five years.
