Hi there. Slowly assembling parts for my 2846 seamaster before I send it to the watchmaker. Any ideas what gaskets the 1950s snap back seamasters had. Normal generic rubber of something else. Cheers in advance.

Curious why the watchmaker isn’t sourcing these parts for you...it’s what we do...

And it probably makes a lot more sense to purchase gaskets in quantities greater than one.

Hi Archer. The watchmaker I use is 91. He is great but doesn't have an Omega washer. I want to track down the right one to make it easier for him.

Also, with caseback gaskets at this price , it made me wonder if there was something special or unique about them. If indeed this is the right part.

Nothing special - that's just price gouging. 100% mark-up by the reseller there.

BTW the top one is the one you need - 088NS0607 | SEAL O-RING D29.75 D31.75 Ø1

It's just a regular nitrile O-ring - nothing special.

Thank you Archer. It looks obsolete by Cousins will have to hunt elsewhere

It's not obsolete - it's just that Cousins can't order parts from Omega anymore. The dimensions of the O-ring are there in the description - I included those so that you can just find a generic O-ring of that size. Again there's nothing special about these.

Those two clocks on the wall are confidence inspiring 😁
Got to say though, I love those type of places. I'm sure your watchmaker has some great stories to tell.

I suspect that a 91 year old watchmaker has a huge stock of o-rings.

Seeing as there is a bit of interest in Ken the watchmaker I will tell you a bit about him.

He started fixing watches just after WW2 and learned via a scheme that gave employment opportunities to injured servicemen. He was actually a RN Matelot and served under Lord Mountbatten.

You go into his shop to get advice on a watch and come out two hours later having had a fantastic history lesson. Although pretty sharp he is 91 and sometimes you have to call in and remind him about that watch of yours he has and the has he remembered to order the parts needed. This is why I order the parts and give them to him. He has them there then and can get on with the job. The service can be slightly archaic and I might be slightly concerned to leave a very valuable watch with him but the work he has done for me so far has been good....and half the price of most UK watch repairers.
