I love my green SMP. It's a fun watch. Since it's summer in Brazil, I've been wearing mine in the rubber strap since Dec. 22nd, 22 days in a row, and I love it more every day. It looks specially awesome at the beach or at the pool under the bright sun.
It gained 1.6s a day since Dec. 22nd by the way.
Thanks - really good intel. I鈥檒l be getting the bracelet but with the strap too. The strap makes the watch much lighter and will be worn 90% of the time. Did you get the tang or foldover clasp?
My concern with the green rubber strap is whether it will work with all outfits (like the black probably would). Do you think there are any other (more neutral) rubber straps which would work with the green dial?

I bought my SOH on a rubber strap to keep the price down, but since then have bought 2 more watches 馃槦 so I now regret not getting it on a bracelet in the first place.
In my opinion the green SMP is the most handsome diver of that colour with the exception of the Kermit.
I鈥檝e owned the black first (on bracelet and rubber), then the blue on bracelet, and lastly the white on rubber. The white was the nicest to my eyes. If i was given the option now I would go for the green and I would match it with the black rubber strap instead of the green strap

Thanks-I鈥檝e actually been wondering if the green and black rubber would work. I鈥檝e just looked at the zealande website and you can swap bands around. so this might be the closest example I will find. Not bad looking - but would like to see it in flesh and in different light conditions.

I bought the strap with a regular buckle. Works fine.
I have a black rubber strap too from another brand that I put on my green SMP300m every once in a while and I think it works great.
I'd (probably) never use the SMP with anything different that shorts, jeans, and sneakers. I don't think it works well with more formal clothes. Not sure I would even if it was black or white, but that's just me and my old school rules. But the color is no problem, that green goes with any color of clothes.
You can't go wrong with either. I own two 300Ms, the white and the green, and think they're both fantastic. My advice for the first/one watch : Seriously consider the green, but always go with what sings to you.
To answer your post, specifically, reasons to consider the green:
First, it makes your heart pitter-patter....and, isn't that everything? Our whole hobby is ridiculous without the emotional / historical / horological connection.
Second, with only white markers w/o red accent and w/the green color - I'm surprised by how well the green "dresses up" and "dresses down" so efficiently. The all white, no red-accent markers makes a much bigger difference than I expected - gives it a formal look, but it is still a fun 300m
Third and best, the green color is really fascinating and versatile. Omega nailed it. The green really does appear black / dark grey most of the time in indoor settings. Only in bright light ( or under the jewelers perectly corrected LEDs ), does the green pop inside. I tend to wear a lot of black and have no problem wearing my green dial. It goes well with a blue blazer, of course, as well. Outside it is a different story and the green is really fun.
Black dialed watches are wonderful and I own many. But, for a primary watch: the dark green gives you much of the versatility of black while still having a fun kick and interest of the green.
On the green strap, it might be more suited for vacation, the beach, a fun night out etc., but on the bracelet, it's as formal as the blue or black. I think that's any watch on a rubber strap. Only one person has noticed it and they called it a "black watch" having no idea it was an Omega, a Seamaster, or that it was green. No one really looks that closely at your watch.
Thanks everyone. I think I鈥檝e finally been sold on the Green on bracelet (I鈥檒l get a rubber strap later). I鈥檝e got one reserved at the local boutique for collection next week. Comes with a free service voucher - so potentially won鈥檛 need to pay for a service for at least 10-15 years. Decent deal!

Agree that it sounds an excellent deal -- and who knows what an Omega service will cost in 5-10 years?
It's a terrific watch in any colour, but I really like it in the green, and prefer it over the green AT I owned briefly.
