SM Calendar 2849 - Worth it?

Hi, Omega fans,

I want to add a gold piece to my vintage Omega collection and was offered the below for U$D750.

Seamaster Calendar case 2849 - assumed Cal. 503

I can't get the case back off, but I've told the seller I want to see the movement before the final decision.

My issue is the hour markers and hands don't match, however, I can find the correct hands.
Do you think the hands or the hour markers were changed?
The dial is in great condition do you think it was refinished?
Do you think it's a fair price? U$D750

I welcome your feedback and really want to avoid wasting hard-earned funds.

Case condition is too poor. Pity, the rest of it could be not terribly bad. Likely wrong hands.

The case is rough and my photography is dodgy. This picture gives give a better impression.

I don't think $750 Is too expensive considering the dial. However it will need some work, I.e. hands and maybe in the future even a case upgrade.

I tend to agree. If you're very patient, you might build up a nice watch.

I believe it's rose gold.
Is there any way I can tell for sure?
Yes, it's not yellow 😀

Rose gold is more rare. You're not going to find another case, but you can have it repaired at some expense.

Rose hands might be harder to find and why you have luminous hands and a non-lume dial.

This is my rose Lemania

The dial is the money shot for sure, really nice. Unfortunately the case and hands make it a fairly challenging project.

To me iit looks like yellow gold. Here with the levels slightly adjusted.

I could be wrong, it's hard to tell sometimes with these 50's watches

More pictures.

The dial looks to good to be true! and the hand's age don't match the dial/markers.

Has this dial been refinished?
How does the movement look?

Dial script looks fine to me. But as others have said, the hands are not correct. A lume-free dial of this period should have lume-free hands (no slots)
If you really wanted to splurge you could have a jeweler make a custom case for you. Might be easier than looking for a 14k GF/RGF donor, and might end up looking nicer.

Dial looks original to me and in nice shape. Movement is in average condition. Case is worn and below average. Price is fair for what you get.

Nice dial, but pass on the case. Just too beat up for the price and movement looks a bit scratched up

If your going to spend $750 and then more trying to upgrade later on. Why not just add the extra and buy something better.

I dunno, Don, those dials aren't all that common. I'd do it. Cases that fit a 503 are common.

$ 750 would be a no brainer for me

+1. Finding a donor case shouldn’t be too hard - really nice no-lume hands might be a little more difficult. But it’s all possible and I’d say worth the effort. This dial in a nice case on a gold BoR…

Damnit. I think I need one. 🤦

Thanks for the guidance, gents.

I've agreed to pay the usd750 if he can supply the hands, a new crown and gold buckle. Which im sure he can as he has thousands of parts, but poorly organised.

I'll send a update, next week. M

Update:

Picked up for USD 600

Just came back from Service operating perfectly.

Next step is to source the correct hands.

Case condition not quite as bad as originally presented.

What makes you think those hands are not correct? That's a very good example of how dauphine hands are supposed to look with this type of dial.

Edited: Oh that was me shooting my mouth off. I was wrong.
