Slow death of the Centenary...and its brethren?

Just curious what info you're basing this statement on.
Well, by the fact that folks have exhausted every detail about them and there isn't much more to learn about them.. Usually folks start getting bored after that. Plus there seems much more excitement about new German and restrained watches then the newest big bright tool watches coming out. Plus what I see people wearing, much more regular watches than divers like I used to see a couple years ago.

Yeah, if your question was about sports vs dress in general, I'd bet most people on here either own or covet a vintage pie pan Connie.
Totally agree

Like many of the longer term members here i have a collection of both 😲

25% of my watches are tool watches 😉

You can't be a serious Omega collector without having at least one Centenary in the collection.... 😁

I do agree, but the question is, when did they get them, and do the younger, newer members have a lust for them to the same degree as the sports models?

I think interest in particular models is somewhat generational. In other words, if you grew up in an era where successful guys wore Day-Dates, you might covet them when you got older and had some money. Ref. 1803 and 6611, the early models, actually look understated and elegant on a strap at 36mm, but what young guy would take that over a vintage Sub?

My point is, there was a heck of a lot of chatter about Connies and the like about five years ago, and I've noticed a gradual decrease in bandwidth about them, and related models like the Centenary. As the world has become increasingly "casualized" in all forms of individual presentation, it follows that a sportier looking watch would be a logical choice. So for many, I guess, a gold watch looks too stuffy and un-hip for daily wear. But I like 'em...

Maybe it's just that us gold and Constellation buyers have seen what over exposure has recently done to the sports watch market and have learnt to keep our mouths shut when we know we're onto a good thing 😉

If I can still pick up hard to find Connies at the same price I was paying 2 or 3 years ago then that's a good thing in my book!

Or, express disinterest as a decoy. Are you aware that in fact, Dennis has a very large Speedmaster collection?
