Actually, you buy a watch because you like it and it brings you enjoyment. Nobody else notices or cares about what watch you are wearing except a few, and I mean few, fellow watch aficionados. It is only about how it makes you feel.

"Well spotted" was addressed at you for finding the OP's post on Rolexforums. My snorting comment was addressed at the OP for his asking price.
Thank you馃榾

I agree with everything here, and cannot argue with free market and private ownership, and anyone's right to do what they wish with his own property.
I think some of the emotion here is the idea that this watch should go to someone who will really appreciate it. As far as a Blacklist/priority list... lets just say that they are taking notes... "Blacklist" is my term, not theirs, and I agree it is too harsh a term, and Omega would not take that kind of negative punitive approach. At the same time, as @maxtor71 states, they are surprisingly aware of where this snoopy is going. The strategy wouldn't deny anyone the access to their products, but pieces like this would certainly be better controlled to prevent this type of profiteering. You could also argue that having a limited edition at all results in denying some customers access to their products. I think that they priced it effectively, for the very reason of wanting the true speedmaster lovers to have access to it. The value would still swell in the future, because those that truly wanted it, get it, and hold onto it... This is an industry entirely built on the emotions tied to these objects, otherwise, why would any of us pay the prices we do.

Ironically, something like this snoopy may not come around for a while... the caseback in particular is difficult and time consuming to produce. they could have chosen to make 3 times the number, with less detail, but the 'Product is the priority' (directly quoted from Jean-claude Monachon)

As far as the Belt-tightening on boutique events etc, this year - Olympics in particular, plus the Ryder cup, is eating up the entire budget for those kinds of boutique events... next year will be better.

I would be surprised if Omega did not have some form of customer info database they use to manage supply. Luxury car mfg like Ferrari and Porsche do. Hermes does. Why wouldn't Omega. Ferrari and Porsche limit who can get one of their preferred models very well. Hermes does something similar to Patek.

Well they don't seem to put it to much use. I'm still waiting for an invitation to all the events I expressed an interest in. Even a call about the new blue Speedmaster shown at Baselworld would've been nice馃檨

What was the MSRP? $7,350 plus tax, right? I know that I don't know you and shouldn't judge you; and making assumptions, well we all know what that makes us. I say this at the risk of making an online enemy, but others are thinking it. I suspect that all your declined offers were at least a 50-80% markup for you or more, as I wouldn't pay more than 1.5x for one myself. So if the offers were close to your $20K and rejected, then it makes me wonder if the use of the word "greedy" is appropriate here. Maybe you'll forgive me someday, when we get to know each other better.

List it for $25k.....then $20k will seem like a lowball and you come out as a nice guy and generous!

Gotta love capitalism!

well, inhowfar is the OP different from Omega?

both try to max their margin, make a fast buck based on a market situation and milk it for what its worth ...

lets face it you get $2-3k worth of watch + pay for $6k of marketing fluff, to have the question "what could you do in 14 sec" written on the dial. 馃槖

oh... yes, the cartoon person was vital and instrumental to Omega, Nasa and mankind ... lucky us it was snoopy and not hello kitty ::facepalm1::

so, I don't see why its wrong to ask/pay $20k (OP) but ok to ask/pay $8-10k (Omega) ... both parties grab whatever they can get away with and run. Is the OP a taller midget?

rest assured, Omega is taking note that people are willing to pay $15k and pretty soon you will have LE's that cost $15-20k out of the door .... the OP is just doing the market research part for omega 馃榿

I can't imagine someone paying 20k for a watch like snoopy. That's crazy. But if op gets that much more power to him.

I like the way this thread is sustaining itself and getting pretty philosophical along the way. Al128 is right is saying that both the individual and Omega are looking to achieve similar outcomes and I have no objection to anyone optimising a profit opportunity. My only concern really is that for Omega this is a bit short-termist - yes, immediate good margins, but do LEs like this, which over-exploit the inherent good standing of the Speedy, undermine the company's reputation, with possible loss of goodwill and future customer retention levels resulting? I appreciate that personal taste is a very variable thing, but I really struggle to see this watch as an aesthetic/conceptual success however well it's doing commercially.

Flipping is part of every hobby. EVERYBODY has done it at some point. Hobbies like this where you dealing with highly collectable items need flippers to keep the hobby "moving". Most people will disagree with people buying purely for the profit in it, especially for the purists in the hobby. It goes against the code. The NICE thing to do is to pick things like this up and flip to someone who didn't have the chance that REALLY wants one, at cost. That doesn't happen to often though.
The mistake of the OP is to put it up as he is thinking of flipping it. Considering the circumstance, these threads always turn into a flame out and the OP looks really bad. What good is a reputation if it isn't a good one? On the forum I run, we don't let guys post this stuff because we have a classified section and stuff like this is just fishing for buyers in avoidance of the classified rules.

It is a cool looking watch that surely has some collectibility. Long term collectibility? Time will tell.

If you are getting offers anywhere close to your $20,150 asking price and assuming you paid the MSRP plus tax I think you have to let it go. Do I think they will ever be had at msrp?? Maybe, maybe not. But I do not think you will see a moment any time soon where they command 3x msrp.

It is called the time value of money. You bought it shortly ago, had it for a very short amount of time and can almost triple your money. Take it and run unless you are emotionally attached. If that is the case get that thing out and wear it, you will still make money.

You know what I'd do (perhaps) ? Buy one, flip it for 20k, then come back and buy another, and the rest of the money invest or whatever... 馃榿
