Silver Snoopy order process may drive me away from Omega

I'm an ER Doc and have been a little busy for the past few months. I live in an area with no local boutique or even an authorized dealer. I called Omega directly a few months ago when the 50th Snoopy was announced and was told to subscribe to the online mailing list to receive updates when the watch became available. Unfortunately for me, I failed to get in line at any of the boutiques as the couple that I called were reserving spots on the waiting list only for their "preferred customers"...
Well, now it's the end of a horrible year in medicine, and I wanted to take my year end bonus and buy a Silver Snoopy... only to find they are now sold out and not taking any orders. I missed the window on the 45th Snoopy and now it looks like my only hope of obtaining a 50th is on the flipper market. As an Omega fan, and Speedmaster owner of many years I am disillusioned, disappointed, and disheartened at how this was handled for a non-LE model.
Any advice on how to obtain this watch at a reasonable price would be appreciated. I love Omega, and am a big fan of the history of the space program, so for me the Silver Snoopy ticks all the boxes. But if it means paying $20,000+ to wear one, I'll say no thank you to Omega and take my money to Jaeger-Lecoultre or a pre-owned A. Lange...
There are lots of watches I admire and would like to own, but I thought the Silver Snoopy would be one I could reasonably obtain...
Yes, I know all about supply and demand... I took economics once during the 11+ years of college I attended. I didn't need that snide lecture from the 26 year-old who answered the phone at the OB who asked what I expected with the "most in demand watch in the world"... Still, if an Omega fan with the ability to write a check for this watch can't reasonably obtain one, what does this say about Omega and how much or little they value those of us who aren't on their "preferred customer" list with a boutique?

Thanks for letting me rant... I've lurked here for many years and regret that this is my first post... Thanks for letting me rant.

COVID affected Omega’s supply chain, too. I’m one of those people who could have gotten on the Snoopy list right away, but passed on it because I am waiting on a 321. Waiting 12 months. Dumb me. I “settled” LOL for the new Sapphire Speedy.

When I asked last week about the possibility of getting on the Snoopy list the answer was no. Omega doesn’t want to have people waiting 2+ years officially. I get that.

I don’t think this was the intention of Omega. To frustrate customers so badly. It’s not been their approach for the most part. Other may feel differently.

Many people here, myself included, paid full deposit, even including sales tax the day the watch was announced and are still waiting on delivery. My OB told me at the time to expect delivery in 2021.

For myself, I even made my initial 5k deposit last may, almost 6 months before the watch was announced on 5 October, and then paid the remaining plus tax when pricing was confirmed. I’m still waiting after paying full deposit and I own 7 omegas including a 321.

So although I sympathize with you on this being a terrible year for medicine and front line workers, the best advice I can give you is to call an omega boutique, and register your interest. I don’t think they’re taking deposits any more. Don’t feed the flippers, because that’s what perpetuates this issue. Wait it out and pick something else up while you wait.

Unfortunately, with this release the hype was frothy a full year before the watch was even announced, so clients who had lots of history with the brand were already making moves almost a year before it was revealed.

They aren't sold out as it's only limited in production and I believe you will be able to buy at RRP, just not immediately.

As you already stated OB's aren't taking new orders but they will when their current lists are cleared.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I was told by multiple OBs today that they aren't even taking wait list names as they are sold out for the entire production run... one took my name/number but said to basically not count on getting one.
So that's the reason for my frustration, for a non-LE product the OBs are telling me that the entire production run is already accounted for with deposit-paying customers. I would have been fine with putting a deposit down for a delivery in 12+ months...
I wasn't expecting them to have one in stock anywhere today, but to say Omega has already sold out of the production run with pre-orders I was shocked and irritated.

I love these funny complaints.
Is this Snoopy the only game in town? Why not just to say “thank you good bye” and to buy another watch, Omega or other?
I personally can’t stand any waiting lists to pay my own money. It’s ridiculous.

The responses you got from OB's contradict the word from Omega HQ that everyone who wants one can buy one, could it be the OB's are cautious for waiting lists being too long (maybe even concerned about people getting on multiple lists and not getting a feel for the market) and should have mentioned they are talking about the production for the next two years?

We don't have OB's in Holland but at a highly respected local AD they are listing this with a pre-order button (they do state there's a delivery time of 2+ years), to me that doesn't sound like it's sold out.

There is literally NFW I would do the below to obtain a watch. I’ve got plenty in the stable, but for a non LE piece it’s asinine that there’s an expectation of this type of behaviour.

Plenty of people missed out on various LE's over the past few years including ST#1, ST#2, Apollo 11 50th, '57 Speedmaster Chrono, the two CK2998's and others, and all of them became available on the secondary market quickly at fairly small premiums. Snoopy 3 is overhyped, imo, and once the market realizes that Omega will supply the market for as long as the mania continues you'll see more and more orders cancelled or flipped at little profit. Bide your time, they will become available. There isn't much Omega can do to tamp down the mania other than to keep supplying the market, and that's what they are doing with no set number of pieces in the edition. They played this about as well as they could.

I sympathize, but you waited until you got your end of year bonus and expected a watch to be available at a boutique where you haven’t done business. That’s just not realistic. It may be the case that it’s overhyped and they will eventually become more easily available..... but if a boutique has lists of clients that have bought multiple watches and placed deposits Oct 5 and before... can you really argue with them selling them to preferred clients who placed first deposits. They are a business and they make a living off of these clients that have bought watches to support them.

They did their best here. Lots of advanced warning of the release date, and they haven’t made it a limited edition.

I’m sorry, what about my “behavior” is so offensive to you? Full deposit for a watch is nothing new, and certainly not specific to omega or limited editions.

This is really the exact same deal that began at Rolex a few years back and they didn’t mind losing customers but gaining hype and that gave them even more customers never pay a full deposit (free money with no firm date is psychotic ) I commend you on looking elsewhere why wait you know how short life is move forward

Welcome to the forum😀
I sincerely hope you feel better now you've got that off your chest👍

Seeing as you've spent the best part of your early career studying medicine I'm not going to tell you to go back and change careers to become a structural engineer. That way it would be so much easier to build a bridge.

Alternately, I would prescribe a well proven homoeopathic remedy that has always worked for the rest of us prolls who have found ourselves in the same situation as your good self. Get a cup of concrete and harden up, or start spending like a drunken sailor at your preferred boutique🙄

Plan B...JLC or A. Lange. Find one, buy it and wear it.

have fun
kfw

There's heaps of other brands besides.
The Germans do nice work as do the Japanese.
To that, have a look at GS or for that matter Credor.

Don't be discouraged - just wait a few months and try some OB's again, if you find you're still interested in this model around Spring/Summer. As others have said, this is a limited production watch, so Omega will just keep them coming off the assembly line. The current backlog of deposit fulfillments will eventually wind down... just like your ER triage board. Sooner or later, an OB will find its pipeline of Snoopy customers dwindle, and open up to taking deposits again.

Last month, an OB ordered a limited edition watch from 2013 for me when I expressed interest in purchasing one. It was limited to 1952 pieces, and still available brand new from Omega's warehouse 7 years later. If a limited edition of 1952 pieces can be purchased from the OB network 7 years after its launch, I'm sure a non-limited edition model will be yours in due time. I know it probably never applies to the fast-paced ER dept, but good things can come to those who wait 😉

For your question of how to approach LE in general with Omega: I've found just making any ol' purchase at an OB will result you getting calls from several sales associates whenever a new one is announced, asking you if you'd like to place a deposit

I've purchased watches from 3 different Omega OB's, and last October 1 sales rep from each OB called me in late September / early October asking me if I'd like to place a deposit. I declined each (doh!) as I wanted some more time to contemplate, and by the time I decided I do want one, their lists were closed. Oh well, I'll just try again in the summer, if I'm still interested 6 months from now.

Keep in mind that 2021 is Apollo 15's anniversary year. Next year, we'll have major anniversaries for Apollo 17 (50th) and the pie-pan Constellation (70th). I'm sure Omega has cool LE's in the pipeline, that you might even fancy more than the Snoopy.

I also work in healthcare... and am also thinking of spending my year-end bonus on a watch as a reward for getting through a testing year. But under no-circumstances will I allow my impatience to "get what we want, the moment we want it" provide more fuel to the already inefficient market exasperated flippers getting fat off hyperbeasts.

Thanks for all the comments/opinions... Unfortunately I understand that some of my dissatisfaction is my own doing as I purchased my speedmaster moonwatch through one of the resellers on this board and not an OB. Part of that decision was due to the fact that there are no OBs and even no ADs within 3 hours of my home... and I didn't realize how the OB influenced future purchases, especially of limited or high demand pieces. Unfortunately, the second choices I listed were based on paying the flipper premium. So an Lange isn't really in the budget. Maybe one of the JLCs would be, but I think I may just pay down some debt and wait for the next opportunity. I went sort of overboard on my loved one's Hanukkah presents partly out of guilt at how crappy 2020 had been to our family. Believe it or not, revenue is down even though the pandemic has hit us hard because overall ER volume is down by as much as 60%... never mind the fact that people seem more critically ill. Ah, the business of healthcare is even worse than the business of selling watches!
Still, I guess I'll have to get over the bad taste I have in my mouth for Omega and realize 2020 was hard on everyone and hope supply and communication will improve going forward. I also hope the OBs are going to see enough supply to fill orders of first time purchasers down the line... I refuse to pay the premium to a flipper on what is supposedly a non LE piece.
I sincerely appreciate your comments, and the opportunity to gripe to the internet audience...

As a fellow physician, I can absolutely commiserate with you on wanting some watch retail therapy to demarcate the end of 2020. I did the exact same thing.

For me, I made a list of several watches which I have been wanting but holding off on pursuing this year and then called their respective boutiques and began inquiring. I knew stocks would be low from both the pandemic as well as it being year end and so my expectations were tempered.

I got lucky and have been very happy with what I picked up, both as a watch as well as its symbolism.

Ergo, my advice to you is to do something similar. If you have a few you know you will enjoy, I bet you can land one from that list. However, if the new Snoopy is really the only watch you truly want, hold tight and wait for production to ramp back up and keep trying. Best of luck!
