Hi Good Day to all of you..I'm just a newbie in this site and finally i found on site. I have some question to our Gurus, since omega introduce the Si14 is patek part of this development? samething with rolex?
I doubt either would be, Omega's parent company Swatch Group owns ETA, Valjoux and Lemania, along with more mid to high end than any other maker, frankly I doubt they'd need Rolex or Patek's help, as they're the flagship brand of the largest watchmaking group in the world.
Rolex developed their parachrom blue hairspring totally independently from Omega/ETA's development of their Si-14. Both have anti-magnetic qualities, but for some reason, the Si-14 has greater shock resistance and hence is more stable over a long period of time, from what I understand. If you google the two terms, you'll find comparisons between the two.
Patek are also experimenting on their own with SI14 parts, the 5550P Advanced Research perpetual calendar is an absolute masterpiece combining classical old school watchmaking finess, and the latest technology in horology. http://www.watchesbysjx.com/2012/10/photo-essay-patek-philippe-ref-5550p.html
