This thread has been great and dangerous, haha! Thanks to everyone for sharing. Some great pictures on here that are really moving my thoughts on the Explorer. I might have to ask around and see if any ADs have one to look at.
Keep the 1016s coming! Been on the hunt for one for a while, but not yet had any luck finding one - they do not grow on trees it seems. Strange considering the ref had such a long run, but maybe they weren't as popular while being in production as the Sub? In my experience, it is not uncommon to see papers showing a sale several years after than the production of the watch.
Since January I wear my Tritium-Ex2 on a STAIB: incredible comfort and quality! The color of the lume is " neon"
How about this one? The new 40mm Explorer ref. 224270 My AD surprised me with it yesterday. I’ve now owned all four modern case sizes… they are all amazing, but this one works best for my overall frame and wrist size.
May 8... Happy Birthday to Sir David Attenborough... turning 97 today ! Congratz to British explorer & zoologist/biologist Sir David Attenborough on his 97th birthday. Last year he was so kind autographing a few 1962 photographs showing him wearing his Rolex Explorer 1016 wrist watch. Explorer 1 is far and away the best thing Rolex has ever done. I have a 36 (pictured) and a 39 and it is a constant battle between the two.
(Re) joined the club today -- finally managed to pick up my Exp 36. Tried the 40 also, but preferred the 36 overall on my wrist for its versatility and proportions. Wears like a dream.
Dear members, Good morning! I don't know if this is the right place to post my message. While browsing this forum, I came across the 'debate' regarding which watch Sir Hillary edmund was wearing on the first successful everest climb. This article made me buy a Smith deluxe a409 from 1954. Now I am looking for an Explorer 14 270. During my research I have found two potential candidates: one from 1992 and the other one from 1994. They are in the same range price, but the 1992 just comes with a guarantee card from 2023. The other one comes with the full set. Now, according to what I have read online, the series C ( 1992) is a little bit less 'common '. My dilemma is now which one should I buy if I pull the trigger. It is a lot of money so I don't want to make a mistake. On one hand I like the 1994 with the full set on the other hand, I like the idea the the 1992 is less common ( let me clarify it, it has nothing to do potential value of the watch. It is just that I enjoy vintage watch with a extra history. ). What would you suggest, the one from 1994 or the one 1992? I know in the end, choosing a watch is a very personal choice but I want to ear other' s opinion because there are issues that I surely miss such as maintenance, guarantee.... Thank you for read my post. I wish you a great day Sincerely yours Marc antoine martin
Hi, I would prefer the set with the original ROLEX card of the watch. Not necessarily with box or hang-tag. You should check the stretch of the bracelet (all segments included?) and ask for a time-grapher test.
Dear sir, Thank you for the advice. Iam going to ask for à time-grapher bur then how do you read it ? Best regards Mam
Ask the seller, if he can "invest" time and €€ at the local jeweler before the sale. the you post the results f the TG here
