This absolute genius died yesterday at 94, after giving us such an exhaustive list of hit songs that he has to be counted amongst the all-time greats. His compositions didn’t have the political sting of many songs from the era, nonetheless, they defined romance and relationship optimism.

    Thanks Burt…

It’s impressive just how prolific he was at writing. The younger generations, who may not have heard of him, will almost certainly be familiar with his songs.

    He was a great talent.

I recall back in the early 90's I was visiting relatives up in Benedict Canyon and for some reason my sister and I decided to cruise around other roads in the hills. We came across a typical narrow road with cars jammed along both sides parked for some sort of big house party. Beiing the nosey types, we parked and followed the well dressed people walking towards the driveway gate and home. We never made it past the gate. We were turned away by security as we certainly weren't invited. It was Burt Bacharach's house :D

What a back catalogue. Perhaps we are fortunate that he had a full life and the opportunity to share his talent.

Fantastic collaboration between Burt and the 5th Dimension. An insight into the genius of all of them:

Maybe my favourite song by Burt and Dionne Warwick is just fantastic.

Tuned the piano for the great man when visiting Melbourne on two occasions. A total gentleman, apologised for keeping me waiting after rehearsal pre-concert. Told him it didn’t matter and I’d make him sound good regardless. Got a punch on the shoulder and a “there ya go!” He was in his 80’s by this stage but came across as a decent kind of person.

Well, let’s say I’ve met others who were not as civilised.

Wow! You tuned Burt Bacharach’s piano!!!
I think you could take a small slice of credit for some of his songs.

Ahhh, no. Not that I wouldn’t appreciate the royalties.
Small credit for a couple of performances yes, but there’s one of me in every town doing their job with no fuss, no attention and generally just a small cog in a big wheel. Bit like a watch really. You only notice us when we’re not working.
