This new-to-me heirloom is headed to Indiana today for service and a new crystal. Can’t wait to see the results! Meanwhile, I need a new band that will complement it well. I’m leaning black in lizard or croc, but would love suggestions. A great Friday and weekend to all here at OF!

Beautiful

Is the hours hand right size for this model? A bit hard to differentiate the two

I am going to assume so, but I am admittedly a novice at such details…but I’m learning. This watch has been in a lockbox untouched for 5 decades. It was my dad’s but it likely belonged to my grandfather first. I seriously doubt it has ever been touched internally.

I've researched a bit now and there indeed seems to be example with long hours hands, on default I expect the hours hand to be short and clear the indices, but it seems in these models it went both ways

I'm a late 60's model collector though, so this is all just out of curiosity, I'm a novice too

The new crystal is going to make a massive difference, always nice to see an heirloom piece getting the love it deserves and staying in the family

You can of course use any strap that makes you happy, and it will look fine with a dressy exotic skin strap such as you mentioned. However, originally, this watch would have been considered a casual sporty watch, so a flat tan pigskin strap would have been typical.

Replies appreciated. Will go on the hunt for a tan pigskin strap. On another note, who knew 3500.00 insurance on a parcel was going to push 75.00?

I knew that. 😀

But more to the point, you dramatically over-insured unless you shipped several other watches at the same time.

I put the amount of insurance that was suggested. It’s an heirloom, so it’s worth that much to me if it is lost. Meanwhile, I’ll have to wear the watch in this unorthodox fashion for the next month or so…

Hour hand length is correct for these models.

I like what you did with your smart watch. Very clever.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think that sentimental value is relevant to insurance. The market value of the watch is worth maybe one quarter of that amount, and full replacement value from an overpriced dealer would be about one-third of the amount, and as far as I know, you cannot insure items for multiples of their actual value. So I don't understand why someone would have told you to insure it for an unrealistic amount.

Anyway, what's done is done and I would not have said anything except that you brought up the cost of shipping.

All good, Sir. No worries. Have a great weekend!

Highly recommend getting BoR bracelet.
High on my list, for sure. Love the way they look and I’m prone to getting wet and working in the heat. Steel would be the better choice than leather.

Couple of questions: where? Is eBay an appropriate place to look? My wrist is fairly small. What I read is that they are hard to size. Is that the case? Thanks!

Generic beads of rice is easy.
Authentic is tricky.
The correct end links are the toughest.

This new-to-me heirloom …
Congrats! Nice heirloom. Love those numerals indices, Seamaster script at 12 o’clock, clover crown style well suited with this ca 1950 watch.
Enjoy it when it comes back.

To me a BoR would bring more presence on wrist.
Below is mine - a 1961s Seamaster - to clarify my views.
Pretty sure this BoR is NOT correct for my watch but it fits!
Nice weekend

I got mine on eBay via Japan. My wrists are also fairly small. When I received mine I didn’t even need to size it. That might not be the case for you.

Finding the correct bracelet and endlinks is possible as there are other members who know what is correct for your reference. I find a nice vintage BoR incredibly comfortable plus it’s a nice change from leather straps.

The BOR bracelets are really great. There's one available here, in the sales section, from a great seller:
https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-1036-11-ss-bor-18mm-bracelet.163772/

I'm not sure if it's "correct" for your case reference, but it is 18mm and has curved end links -- so I think it may fit. Others may want to chime in on that.

As far as sizing, it can be adjusted a few cm within the clasp, depending on where you connect the tail end of the bracelet. A full bracelet will also have removable links, which can be taken out with a spring bar tool. The above bracelet appears to have 3 removable links, which will likely give you plenty of adjustment.
