I got a new 3861 speedy last year and the hesalite glass cracked. With it under warranty still, the replacement is free so I figured I would send it back to Omega in NJ vs going to a repair place and paying for it. But I can't get a decent ETA of when my watch will be back. They just say they are very backlogged with repairs and are working through as quickly as they can. Has anyone gone through NJ recently and have a general idea of how long I'll be waiting? I sent it in mid-November and was originally told an ETA of mid-January, then mid-February but I still don't have it back yet. It was my daily watch until it cracked, so I've been using an old Garmin for a few months now. Should I just assume 6 months and go buy another nice watch in the mean time? If I'm going to be watchless until some time in the summer I might as well get something else. I've had my eye on a turnograph from the mid 2000s but haven't been able to convince myself to pull the trigger.

Don't use this extended service time as a rationale to buy another watch. Just be patient until you get your 3861 back, wear it and then decide if you want another watch at that time.

If you buy Swiss watches by the baker's dozen you'll never find yourself waiting impatiently on repairs.

I’m going to contradict @Evitzee and suggest that life is too short to make good financial decisions. I had to eat ramen and baked beans at times because I’d spent my food money on watches but I regret nothing.

God no. I mean I'm okay enough to buy some watches but that's about it. My comment was mostly meant as a joke because I know you're right but without knowing a definitive timeframe it's very hard to wait.

You married, maybe have a girlfriend (assuming you're male)?
If so: "definitive timeframe" and "hard to wait" bro, seriously, come on... waiting for a watch repair is easy as shit.

It's easy if you know how long you're waiting. If they said "it'll be 6 months" I'd be okay with that, but saying "2 months, no 3 months, no we're still backed up it'll be a bit more" makes it much more difficult.

Get a parts watch. Then sink all the cash flow you do not have into it. That can take months or even decades.

So we all agree I'm an idiot and shouldn't buy another watch, does anyone know how long I should expect to wait for mine back?

+1 If you have multiple watches, repair times won't bother you at all. I have three watches at two different watchmakers right now being serviced. Still have plenty of choices for daily wear. All this approach requires is to be an idiot and to have cash. Fortunately, I am the first and I have the second. 😀

I don’t agree. I think it’s scandalous you’re even considering having only one watch. It’s not just an issue when it’s away for service, what will you do when you just fancy a change, or need something dressier, or that suits a different strap, or for a summer watch, or for special occasions, or Tuesdays?!

My omega went to service in September and was told 3 months- Now going onto 6 months. Initially I was getting impatient, now I'm just going with the flow and expecting it to happen, when it happens! (but hopefully not another 6 months lol)

Thanks. This is not what I was hoping to hear but it aligns with what I'm fearing is going to happen to me.

Forgot to mention, I'm based in the UK, so seems like service times are delayed everywhere.
