hi there, I know that the (earlier) 431 movement runs at 36k bph and wondered if it required more frequent services than other movements?
It's my understanding that modern high-beat lubricants are adequate enough for them to only require servicing as often as their slower counterparts. Think of it this way: people don't seem service their 28,800 beat movements more than their 18,000 beat movements despite the later only beating at 62.5% the speed of the former (at least, the question never pops up in my experience). 36,000 is only 20% faster than 28,800.
On these high beat movements, use of the correct procedures and lubricants on the escapement should mean that service intervals shouldn’t differ a great deal from other watches. However, if an owner has high expectations regarding accuracy of high beat watches (or any other for that matter), there is a common misconception that when accuracy begins to suffer, regulation is all that will be required. That may, or may not be. Five years or so after conditioning, if accuracy begins to suffer, a conditioning is often suggested to return the watch to performance.
