Hello All,

Hope you are all having a great day! Apologies if this topic has already been discussed before, but i was wondering about the serviceability of micro-brands like Kurono / Baltic etc. Even if within warranty it may not be cost effective to ship these internationally to the brand for service. I understand most of them use Miyota and Seagull movements but with some modifications. Is it easy for your local watchmaker to get parts for them and service them in the event of any issues? It could be a parts that are generic (stock) or modified by the brand or even brand specific like crystal/crown. Would love to know your thoughts on the same. Thanks OF!

Finding a good watchmaker whos local seems like a daunting task at least in the area that I am from. If you haven't purchased the watch yet and have a watchmaker that you already go to regularly and like my advice to you would be to give them a call first and ask them if they service the movements you mentioned before you make your purchase.

These movements mostly cost less than $100 and my watchmaker won't do a service for less than, well, none of your f'ing business, but service means you throw out the old movement and replace it,

Needless to say, any watchmaker can do the same.

People tend to focus on the movement in these discussions, but unless the movement is something very unusual, it won’t be the biggest concern.

Case parts are typically the bigger problem, so things like hands, dials, crystals, crowns, case tubes, and seals. I always suggest that people who are looking into these ask the company if they carry spare parts and if they are willing to sell them to watchmakers...
