The watch runs fine. According to the video, the other "features" are what is suspect. I do like the looks.

Do you work for Serica? 😉😁

Those damn pesky features... like setting the time and hacking.

The whole notion of suck it up, it’s a “feature not a flaw” has made me dump entire product lines at work- I don’t stand for that bullshit.
I had actually been pining over their tuxedo Cali dialed field watch since it was announced- it’s beautiful. Guess I’ll take a pass on that and just save my pennies for the 15 year old Tuxedo dialed Rolex 116200.

Just as a sidebar... when I ordered the now ill-fated 5303 I also ordered their field watch. Totally different movement and works great, zero complaints (well except a screw down crown on a manual winder is weird but it's rated to 200m).
But I totally get what you're saying and agree.

We Live/We Learn.

I always enjoy your enthusiasm re-watches but after the Nivada drama and now this I friendly suggest you call a moratorium on new stuff and dive back into tried and true vintage pieces...you know stuff that has been working right for like fuckin 50+ years already. 😁

Well, that makes me feel better- but it’s still not a way to spin a known QC issue.

But it is pretty

And so is this

In all fairness though... I own around 18-20 watches.
The Serica I was flat out bullshitted about by the owner - I asked him specifically if all the bugs I had read about in the first batch were ironed out for the second batch, I was told Yes and I purchased - so that's that.
Regarding the Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster, I haven't read a word about the Sellita movement being an issue so I would say that's just flat out bad luck I am currently encountering.
As to their absolutely shitty customer service though, I don't know -- maybe I'm cursed or something.

My Omegas (Omegi?) and Rolex are rock solid and definitely newer/modern (vs vintage) though.

But yeah, I get your point for sure.

Sidebar: just sent a scorchingly pissed message to Guillaume at NG about my Chronomaster.

It'll be interesting to see how that gets absorbed and processed.

My patience has expired.

Love the design of these. But this is disconcerting to read. Love the design of the the new ‘excelsior park’ too. However, the lack of their legendary movements (EP-4/40) leave me thinking ‘Masena Labs Uni Racer’ … even with official branding, still a lame clone and not a true revival IMH2CO (although Serica Are doing something fresh and new)..I have contemplated this watch, but shall think thrice. Excelsior Park is done by the same guys doing Nivada…

Maybe they should consider using Seiko movements or even the Seagull?

Nick just dropped a video on the 5303 -- and his movement has the same issues.
Serica needs to own this shit and make it right for current owners *first* and otherwise halt all other production until things are sussed out.

Sorry to parade on your rain. I’m only a month into my 5303 but haven’t taken it off yet. I’ve got a decent lot to choose from, but the safe has remained closed for a straight month. Can’t recall the last time that happened.

Seriously, I am glad you got a "good one" or are okay with the issues as they stand -- as I've stated (as well) I truly love Jérôme's design eye... I own two Sericas and am (and remain) hopeful that the rumor is true ~ that he's going to put a new movement in 5303s down the road and at such time offer the same as a "retrofit" to current 5303 owners.
He's got a special talent for design and I want the brand to succeed -- I just think he was overly optimistic pushing forward as well as claiming the Newton's issues as a "quirk" to a lot of folks who expected a new watch with a hacking movement to hack and to not have such a notable amount of "hand slop".

Do you like the milanese bracelet and clasp? I love the look but that clasp worries me (feels like one wrong catch on a pocket and that watch is on the floor).
I still wear mine from time to time but I think I am going to put it on a Forstner Komfit or Bonklip soon.

The bracelet started giving me anxiety (it felt like it was handcuffed to me…hard to describe), so I changed it to a rubber strap. I’m still really enjoying it. I fished a bunch this summer and it was nice to not worry about a Red Sub offshore.

I have a vintage seamaster 300 enroute so I have a feeling the Serica is going to get a break.
