Serial Number on Endlink

I was switching out my aqua terra 2504.50 bracelet and noticed something curious. Etched on the inner side of the 6 o'clock endlink was the watch serial number. Does anyone know if this was commonplace 20 odd years ago or could it be from servicing? I'm not the first owner.

It's not an official thing in any Omega procedure that I have ever seen. Most likely this was done at service to make sure the bracelet went back with the proper watch. There are certainly other ways of doing this - I personally take every strap or bracelet off the watches and place them in segregated containers with a post it note showing the owner and model.

That's what I was thinking, little strange but I suppose it's quite hidden. The watch originated from Japan, specifically 'Ishida Best Watches' who signed off on selling the watch originally. Maybe a reach but the handwriting on the old documents looks similar to the etched numbers.
