Received an email from an AD letting me know on average a 2.3% price increase on all models from September 11th.

I miss the days only about a decade ago, where a Seamaster and Speedmaster could be picked up for £1,100 and £2,300 very lightly worn pre-owned.

Looking at the retail price now on what a Speedmaster will be after this price increase - £6,500 on hesalite and almost £7,600 on sapphire.

Glad I got my Speedmaster in the £2,000 range brand new and it was a buy-it-for life purchase, one-and-done kind of thing. I feel for the new owners these days.

IMO Omega are pricing themselves into irrelevance

I definitely see significantly less of them being worn in real life ever since they became this price. Back when they were in the low thousand type range I saw a lot of Omega's and a lot of TAG's being worn. These days if I see a watch that's £5,000+ I'd probably say 95% of the time it's a Rolex.

The other small minority will usually be the odd Seamaster here and there, maybe a Cartier or a Royal Oak extremely rarely.

I really don't have a clue as to who's actually buying things like the £12,000 dark side of the moon variants or almost £10,000 Aqua Terra's.

Went through Schiphol airport the other day and thought I would try on the Aqua Terra World Timer. Nice watch. Until she said the price. "R.R.P. is EUR13k, but I can let you have it with a discount for EUR11k". Thank you but no thank you.

We recently saw a price hike in the US and now an upcoming price hike in the UK. Any word on an upcoming price hike in Europe? Or is this just catching up with Europe?

2,5% price increase in EU. It‘ because of the strong CHF in comparison to other currencies.

Omega should be selling to you at cost, no profit for them? What is the 'right' amount of profit for them?

I didn't say they should be denied a profit, and I don't begrudge them making a profit.

Another “Luxury goods have gone up again thread” ::psy::

Bit calmer than the knife forum I’m on where a knife goes up by $6 every year…😁

This price increase was about compensating for currency differences so that Omega would not make losses when exporting to countries that have a different currency. If it was to increase profits, they would have raised prices in other countries as well (e.g. Switzerland), which they did not do.
It is not useful for this discussion if you claim false facts just because you are frustrated because of the price increase.

Useful currency trend graph / table for 2023

https://www.exchangerates.org.uk/GBP-CHF-spot-exchange-rates-history-2023.html

Certainly in Canada Omega price increases have substantially outpaced those that might be expected from currency fluctuations alone. A 3861 hesalite here is closing in on 2x the price of the 1861 version in 2019, for example, and other core sellers like the SMP 300 Diver and AT are up there also, each minus for the most part even modest discounts let alone the fabled Omega 30% I was forever reading about in watch forums.

No doubt currency, materials and other costs play a part in these rounds of increases. But it also seems clear that Omega is looking to move upmarket and bring its key Swatch stablemates along, albeit at a slower pace. I'm betting on another hefty spike with the introduction of Spirate.

C'est law vie. Plenty of other fine chronos around, some with strong heritages also. And OTOH, brands like Oris, WC, Cartier, JLC and even Sinn and Seiko etc. are all moving on up. I guess they'll push as hard as they can while we 're still buying, and then we'll see what shakes out.

when i was picking up the rubber strap for the speedmaster last month at a boutique in Japan the lady there warned me that it was going up about 8% this month, which is what pushed me over the line to get the regular size and not order in the shorter length one as that would have wound up at the higher price.

Could be worse. Prices go up and waitlists form and you are now required to bring your SA flowers, candy, booze and holiday cards.

Hi, I checked out the UK Omega homepage and haven't seen any changes regarding price increases nor in the others european countries I think that the AD's are just telling us potential customers to buy a watch as soon as possible " before it's too late" so that they can make money on us? Just my 2 cents
