Today I got hold of a 1971 Omega UK catalogue & couldn't help but laugh at the way the ladies watches were presented. A few examples And for the independent girls who didn't have to rely on a man to buy them a watch: Of course a few forum favourites are featured: As well as some classics: Interestingly there are no standard moon watches, only a gold one and a Speedmaster Mk II But no 70's advertising would be complete without this:
see, this demonstrates that women shouldn't be in science. they should be at home scrubbing the floors
That's definitely the sort of talk that ends up with you buying a new kitchen, as well as the bathroom
Ha! Speaking of which, I just bought the lady a new vacuum cleaner and a dishwasher...next will be the fridge. In the 90's we could get away with saying things like that. Today? Not so much.
Great catalogue Warren! It reads a little like a Mills and Boon novel (not that I've ever read one you understand!)
Mills and Boon...... I remember my mother has one cupboard full of them. Typical man and woman hugging or kissing cover. Never read once though.
I just got hold of Omega catalogues for 1976,1977,1982 & 2000. They're nowhere near as entertaining as the 1971 one. In fact the late 70s/early 80s one are quite sad. Mostly quartz models with minimal advertising effort & pedestrian layouts. The mechanical watches and flagship models like the Speedmaster are relegated to a couple of pages at the end...
Ash, I assume you mean this one (pic is from a WUS thread): I'll check tonight & post a pic if it's in there. One of them definitely had the Time Computer and the Megaquartz watches in it, so it's possible the Speedy is there too. In fact, I'll post the Time Computer pages regardless. Someone's bound to ask anyway
Here we go: 1976 catalogue This doesn't have the Speedmaster LCD quartz but there is a Speedsonic on the same page ! 1977 catalogue No Speedy quartz in here either 1982 catalogue No Speedy quartz here. Just the intriguing Equinoxe
