I recently purchased a Seiko Type ii 8223 5010. When I looked up the serial number it dated to August 1989 much newer than the usual things I purchase but like the looks. The strange part is I have seen multiple websites say the Type ii ended production in 1984. So what is going on I found one other one on EBay from that guy who always has the over done pictures. I looked up the serial on it also said August 89'. So what is up with this watch. I will probably be buying a second Type ii in addition to get those 70s vibes.

Sure you got the decade right? Doesn't it reset?

"Your watch was most likely produced in August of 1989 or 1999."

    or

"Start of manufacture for movement 8223 is Not in database
End of manufacture for movement 8223 is Not in database
The watch was made in August 1959,1969,1979,1989,1999,2009,2019"

On some movements the serial numbers start over, and there can be a decade difference. Those are the results of the 2 calcs I used

Unless that site has an error for that movements start date. That site states the movement is still in production and started in 88.

Looks about exactly the same minus the primary color of the dial. So maybe the case and dial were leftovers from the 70s and put a movement in it and sold it in 1989. This watch says it was made in 1978
