I don't really think it's about the price, it's more a personal aesthetic decision for you, and nobody can decide for you. However, the dirty, moldy, look of that dial and tachy ring isn't attractive to me.

Is it mold? Or is it toxic mold? That is the question? ;)

Any other pics, like of the movement?

I agree with Dan. It's pretty nasty looking, and it doesn't look like run-of-the-mill "patina." Makes me wonder how the dial got so filthy inside the watch.

But, if you've had your sights on this model, $250 seems okay. I saw a cleaner one listed for $1K. Would you clean it or leave it as is?

I wouldn't buy it, but that's just me. I like newer, cleaner watches.

For that price I would buy it, no questions asked.

Thank you for sharing your opinion, I agree with it is now a matter of personal preference.

Price good... but would you wear it? What’s the cost to make it good?

Thank you  Not sure if its mold I am asking the guy he is not sure as well  i will be getting it, probably in a week to see it in person. I saw those 6138 in the bay that is why i am thinking price is ok.

Would like to have a look at the movement first.
If OK-ish, even I would buy it.

Add an extra usd 450 for a thorough clean of movement (and ask my watchmaker what to do with the dial) and you have an interesting watch for a decent price.

Buyer beware: it might also fall apart in 1000 pieces when the case is openend, once in your possession....::psy::

Don't know much about Seiko Chronographs but there's a complete case with bracelet and all parts other than the movement itself for sale on Ebay right now. The dial is not exactly the same as this one, having round sub dials, but it might be a good source of spares for a restoration.
