Up for sale is my Seiko Lord Marvel 5740-8000 from December 1966. It features the Seiko caliber 5740C manual wind movement which has a frequency of 36,000 beats per hour (Hi-Beat). This is the first Seiko Hi-Beat movement and therefore holds a special place in Seiko history. This watch is in very good all-original condition and appears unpolished to me. It probably spent most of the last 53 years sitting in a dresser drawer, although it has some signs of wear. There is the tiniest fleabite on the otherwise excellent dial between the 12:00 and 1:00 hour markers, but it is hardly noticeable to the naked eye. The case size is 35mm and it has 19mm lugs. I am offering the watch on a new 19mm black genuine bridle leather strap. The caseback has the seahorse symbol and the serial number indicates a December 1966 manufacturing date, which means this is a very early example. My research indicates the seahorse caseback is less common (maybe even “rare”) and only found with the earliest watches of this reference. Worn and Wound did a nice write up on the 5740-8000 about three years ago: https://wornandwound.com/affordable-vintage-seiko-lord-marvel-5740-8000-lm5740-hi-beat/ The watch comes with the Seiko box shown below. My price is $795 OBRO shipped CONUS with payment by PP F&F or bank wire. Other destinations at cost. Later examples of the 5740-8000 without the seahorse caseback sell for less than my asking price, but a similar example with seahorse caseback was listed on Chronocentric in 2017 for 780 euros and sold within a day. So, I think this is priced fairly. 48 hour return period. After that the sale is FINAL.
