With Japan's last giant pandas having returned to China in January 2026, amid strained relations between Japan and China, the timing of this watch's release feels particularly poignant.

Pandas have been beloved in Japan for decades, and their absence leaves a certain sense of nostalgia. I don't know whether Seiko had this in mind when bringing the concept to production, but the watch now feels like more than just a playful design. In a way, it could also serve as a reminder of the pandas that were once such a familiar part of Japanese life.

Perhaps the timing gives this watch a special meaning that it might not otherwise have had.

I also love the little detail that the panda's ears can actually be pressed as buttons. It's a clever and playful touch that makes the design even more charming.

Much better than the recent Omega Bond release. These Seikos are cute and clever. Move over Bull head and make way for the Panda head.

Can't see them on a 70 year old man, but probably not the target audience.

I would unironically wear the crap out of this if it wasn't mecha-quartz. Its funny/cute. IF my daughter was a little older, I would pick her up one of them.

I’m caring for someone else’s 12 year old right now and for the foreseeable future. Everytime I’m setting my watch he walks by and says “uncle Jim fixing a watch”. I get embarrassed and try to explain I’m just setting it. I’d love to get him or give him one of mine to set and follow but he isn’t into watches just knows I am. I’d like him to be the one who gets my watch collection, my son is in China and has traveled more where he found every watch he wants but he’s more into instruments.

My kids would love it, so I have my eyes out for concrete availability details. Doubt I manage to acquire, but I will try
