Flatfoot
·The original Tuna. A nice, all original high beat dive watch.
Superb dial and handset. Tritium dial plots have taken on a Creamy patina. Hands appear slightly lighter in color, as is typical with this reference. According to the first owner, hands were never changed while the watch was in his possession, and their color would support this idea.
Screw down crown engages with multiple turns and operates well. Original titanium screws securing the shroud. Original Bezel rotates correctly with the detents clearly felt as it moves. There is obvious wear as shown. However, in my opinion it all hangs together in an aesthetic sense. Overall the watch presents itself as a nice authentic example of this iconic tool watch.
Titanium shroud in good condition, and still retained by its 4 titanium screws.
Case back with serial dating the watch to April 1976
Watch has not been serviced while in my possession, but continues to run well at approx + 18 seconds per day. Last service unknown, but presumed to be over 5 years ago. I’ve worn it in rotation for several years without any problems. Quickset date functions correctly.
The watch is fitted with a -Z 22 Seiko rubber strap in excellent condition. The strap has enough length to be worn over a wetsuit, but also fits my 7 1/2” wrist well.
I purchased this watch from the original owner, who wore it continuously from new in the late 1970’s and used it as intended. It’s been worn while surfing, diving, and along with the original owner, survived a motorcycle crash unscathed. He had it serviced periodically throughout his ownership. It shows honest wear throughout. I bought the watch to use it in the same manner the first owner did, and have not regretted doing just that. However I would suggest getting it serviced and sealed before swimming or diving with it.
Price is $2400 USD, net of any transactional costs, including insured delivery within the USA. I prefer PayPal, but will be happy to discuss other options as we may mutually agree to. Overseas delivery is also possible with a similar discussion.
My thanks to all the OF boffins who keep all the electrons on this site whirling the way they should.
