Hey folks,

I’ve just noticed a “MBF” mark between the lugs of a rose gold capped 2846 of mine:

It’s the best picture I could produce. I’ve talked to a few fellow collectors here and tried this google thing everybody talks about, couldn’t find anything of relevance.

Is this a logo that tells me anything about the watch, case maker or the likes, or is it an inscription from a previous owner, possible the initials?

Thanks a lot for any insights. 😀 Here’s a picture of the watch itself (I know, needs a clover crown and a plexi with a tension ring that doesn’t cover the Swiss Made…)

Allow me to bump this once. Should nobody know anything about the MBF-logo, I'll stick to my owner's-initials-theory. 😀

Thanks!

If you can show the inner caseback, I might be able to track it down. I think it is a case makers mark, but to track it I need to see the hallmarks on the inner case back.

Of course, thanks a lot. Here’s a picture:

It’s a case makers mark I’m 90% sure as there is not one on the caseback.

these are not the easiest to track down. If it was all gold it would be easier… but gold filled… not sure how to exactly search without all the results for mb&f which is obviously unrelated.

Not sure, but I believe that's a French case maker.

Ha! Thanks a lot, apparently I wasn’t the only one wondering. Scrolling threw the links (and further links in them), French sellers were mentioned twice and I also got this watch from France, seller got it from her dad, so might well be a French case maker. I’m now tempted to order an EotA to get a little more certainty.

Love this place. Cheers guys. 😀

It’s a French market watch, but not a French case maker. Look at the inner caseback.

The triangle below the "2802" on the inside of the caseback is a maker's mark:

I do not know which maker, or whether they have any connection to the "MBF" between the lugs. It is possible (but unlikely) that Omega used different casemakers for different parts of the case.

Anything is possible with 1950's Omegas. A lot of strange stuff happened.

I Have MBF markings between the lugs of two of my gold plated ref. 1660163 watches. The steel case versions of the same reference watches that I have do not, even though the case is otherwise identical. The gold plated versions also have the Omega symbol and 20 microns stamped on the opposite side of the case between the lugs. To me this would seem to indicate that MBF is the company who did the gold plating.

To my understanding untill now we don't have conclusive answer to the meaning of MBF stamp. Am I wrong?
Another rose gold capped with "MBF" marking between the lugs reported in this post
