Sedna and Canopus Gold Speedmasters...

Just how “rare” or exclusive does everyone think these will be?

Obviously they are exclusive to the Boutiques and being solid gold, production numbers will be much lower than their SS counterparts, but do you think they’ll be hard to get? I know they are a regular production model, but so is the 321...

My boutique will be getting their first of each in within the week and I have first right of refusal. May be earlier than I planned on picking one up, but if the general feel is that they will be tough to get, I’d rather get one now if it speaks to me, then pass now and have to wait months+ later.

I think they will be very exclusive alone due to their price tag. So these won't be something you will see regularly in the wild ; )
I don't know how many they are going to produce per year but I would assume these will be relatively easy to get from a boutique with little waiting time - especially compared to what other brands are seeing with their waiting lists.
I think these two models are just beautiful and especially the "Canopus gold" version might be the ultimate understated luxury item.

They’ll be rare for sure, there are many previous generations of gold Speedmaster Pro though that are probably a better buy used if the money side matters to you, if it doesn’t and you just want a Speedy not many other people have then its pretty cool. The PT950 Cal 321 Speedmaster is probably the one precious metal model that will be a genuinely sought after watch one day.

My OB just received one. It has already been accounted for, but I was told you could just place an order and wait, it would take some 2-3 months. On leather, it is significantly less dear, and the bracelet from a modern 3861 Speedy will fit.

I'm not an expert, but I would think putting a steel bracelet on a gold watch would be an extremely bad idea. The steel is a lot harder than the gold and will probably gouge the heck out of the lugs.

I'm no expert either; but in my head it can't be that bad.

Even worst than you expect! If you wear it on a daily basis less than a year will pass and case will need repair to be done.

If you don't want it, I will buy it from you as MSRP :

Wouldn't the correct "gold" springbars or endlinks solve this issue?

Protip: If you really want to save money, just do a dial swap 😉

My guess is that the color difference between the steel and white gold will bother you 😲

Trust me: no. Don’t even think about it.

I worked at one of the largest grays on the market for years and it pains me to this day thinking of how many steel Speidel bracelets completely wore away the lugs of all-gold cases. So many wonderful vintage examples ruined. Longines, Rolex, OMEGA...

I’m sure it helps if it’s an OEM bracelet intended for the case (albeit in a different material), since there’s less rubbing, but there will still be some wiggling of the bracelet against the case+lugs and thus there will be wear on the case.

And all that gold you’re losing is not free, either.😉 (We once bought a pawn shop with a shag rug in the refinishing room; it had seen many years of refinishings. We sent the rug to the refinery - and made thousands of dollars!!).

So, saw them in the flesh. Moonshine A11 50th wins hands down.

Not to say I don’t like these 👍

Here's a few pics of Sedna taken Saturday last:

I'm on the list for an EW, but Sedna's a looker and then some.

The Sedna is stunning. I wish it had a ceramic bezel. Perhaps this goes without saying, but the boutique advised that picking up the Sedna would move me further up the list for the EW I requested. Mulling that over now.

Putting a steel bracelet on a $30,000 gold watch is peak Beverly Hillbilly.

Canopus is really nice, and I tend to think that it will be quite exclusive, even more than Sedna one. In all the cases I do always prefer original configurations. I try to avoid to be smarter than professional people that has spent time and money thinking about what is the better "technical" configuration.
