I inherited this from my Dad. I think sometime in the 70's he fell in love with digital and battery watches. This went into the drawer. He obviously wore it a lot as the "crystal" was horrific. I polished with a felt blurring pad and toothpaste. It's pretty good now.

At some point he "upgraded" the band with an expanding Speidel. Dad was a practical guy and I'm sure the convenience of the expanding band was cool to him!

I'm guessing around 1958? I haven't opened it because I'm not sure how to do so.

It measures 34mm diameter, 42.5mm lug to lug. 24mm external and 18mm internal lug measurements.

So my question is what band would have been original? I'm interested in sources you may know as well as the style.

    Thanks!

Has it got a large logo on the back it should be 19mm I think. If it is then I have two, a black and a white dial.

If your only question is, what kind of band would the watch have come with. The answer is most likely leather.
You will not get more definitive information without better pictures and opening the case. You will need to get the case reference number and the movement serial number.

It is a nice watch and looks in good condition and all original, as far as can see from the blurred photo. These look fantastic with the larger "beads of rice" bracelet but as mentioned above, odds on the original was a plain leather strap. If you mean to wear it, you need to get it serviced as running it with old dried-up oil will damage the innards. Servicing is not cheap but your watch is worth it, especially being a family piece. DON'T send it to Omega for servicing as they will charge the Earth and replace lots of original bits that don't need replacing. Take your time to find a watchmaker who is competent with vintage.

That should look great on leather too.
If you're in UK I can put you in touch with my watchmaker if you like.
Enjoy her anyway but service you must.

Still only 18mm for those :)

Lovely watch, @Aqw1942 - bet it is great knowing that this was your father's. As mentioned, it most likely came on a leather strap, but if you feel like splurging, you could source a "beads of rice" bracelet that would fit it well.

That would make it look something like this:

It will probably run to around $200 for one in decent condition.

Yikes. I have been wearing it. I will let it wind down and find a reputable watchmaker. Any recommendations on one in the Detroit Michigan area?

Here's the back. Sorry for the blurry iPhone pics.

Ok I pulled back a bit and took pics.

At first I was bummed he engraved his license number on the back but now I love that he did. It will be handed down from me to my son so it actually makes it even more valuable to me!

Again, if anybody knows a watchsmith in Detroit Michigan please let me know.

Also, how does the back come off so I can look for numbers? Or should I leave this to a professional?

Personally, I would leave that to a watchmaker. The case backs on this reference may come off without much effort, but getting back on can sometimes require a case press tool watchmaker should have.

Getting it off can be a PITA as well. I think it was JimInOz who once instructed me to start with a razorblade and use progressively wider case back knives.

This pic is funny. Scrolling down I first thought it was a naked woman.
