    Hi guys,
I'm fairly new around here and have already done a fair bit of reading and delving around in the forum and thought it was time for my first real post. Go easy on me :)

So, one of the main reasons I came here was to learn more about some of the details on different Omega models and really to decide what my first (Omega) purchase is going to be. I've been saving hard and I think I'm now close to the realms of a SMP 300 or Speedie Auto (pre-owned)... after lots of consideration I've settled on the idea of Seamaster Professional 2254.50 (possibly a 2264 but would prefer an auto).

What I'm really hoping is that somebody could guide me through this model and help me decide on what to buy - I'm thinking sensible questions to ask might be:
    - What years was this model manufactured?
    - Have there been any model revisions?
    - Is black the only coloured dial?
    - Are there any special / limited versions?
    - What sort of price range should I be looking at? I know what they tend to be advertised at but what should I be offering? Is less than £1000 / $1400 realistic or am I kidding myself?

Any help or advice would go a long way :)

    Thanks all!
    Richard.

$1400 is going to get you a beaten up watch head with no bracelet and no boxes and papers.

A good and clean example can be had for $2300 and up... And it's only going to go up.
It is a cult watch and it has a growing reputation as such.

The only variation it had was with the bracelet. Preferably go for the Speedy type instead of the Bond type.

    Here is mine. Happy hunting!

    Hi Richard,

The 2254 is certainly considered to be something of a modern classic, so it's a fine choice. There are variations on the theme, such as the electric blue dialed 2255. I believe both also offered a Ti version as well. There was also an 'America's Cup' version of the 2254, which had a white gold bezel insert. I have a more limited version of that watch, commonly referred to as the 'Non-AC', since it doesn't have the America's Cup logo on the dial; it also has applied hour markers compared to the rest of the line's painted markers, which I feel makes for a better dial.

I think trying to get a 2254 for $1400 is going to prove to be difficult, but you never know. It seems that lately they have been more in the $1800 range, which isn't too far off your mark.

I cannot speak to the manufacturing range, but it was well over a decade ago if I'm not mistaken. Hope I was able to help.

Ah right that makes sense now - I've seen a few AC examples and wondered about the hands... Must admit, the Non AC looks brilliant and my choice has just narrowed it's self down :)

The 2054 is with the bond bracelet, the 2254 is with Speedmaster style bracelet.

I sold my 2054 for $1300 last month. It was a daily wear watch, ie not collector grade, no papers.

...Is there a difference between the clasps of the 2054 and 2254? Can they be 'micro' adjusted?

Always thought my old 2254 with a non-AC dial was as good as it gets as a daily wearer :)

Here's my personal 2254.50. The beat up case and ghosted bezel I find very appealing:

I've always wanted to ask a question about this watch (below) that belongs to a work colleague of mine. It was his late father's, who received it as a gift from his boss. Maybe in the mid-1990s? Now that so many SMP experts have surfaced in this thread, I might as well ask now.

Could someone tell what the Ref. No. may be? Am I right in identifying this crystal as acrylic? (I believe I see an Omega symbol etched in the crystal at 4:30)

It depends on the size of the case, but it looks like a 25318000 to me, so a gent's size Bond SMP. It has a sapphire crystal though...so not sure what that mark is.

    Cheers, Al

Thanks, Al. I'm not sure on the size as I haven't seen the watch in person, but it covers most of the pillow width so it could be 40mm+. I guess that thing on the crystal is just a nearly-omega-shaped goober :)

Sorry, just had a Columbo moment so..."Just one more question sir"

How do I read the reference / serial number ... What does each digit mean and does it indicate year of manufacture?
