Seamaster Scratch/Scuff Advice

Hi guys,

New Omega owner here - recently purchased a Seamaster this past month. As you can see on the images below I’ve somehow managed to catch it on something whilst wearing it and it has a small scratch (which I’m gutted by especially as it’s so new). From reading similar stories I appreciate the argument of accepting that the watch will take some hits and that this is what gives it its personality, however as it is very new I was wondering if it’s worth doing anything about it/would Omega provide any assistance? I assume they wouldn’t be very helpful as accidental damage wouldn’t come under their warranty. Cheers guys!

As soon as I get the first scratch, I wait to get the scratches more uniform around the case 😉

I just spoke with an OB manager and was informed that Omega will now honor accidental damages under the updated Omega warranty effective 3 weeks ago. The manager said yes, even accidental drops will be covered under warranty now.

Interestingly, an update to the customer care policy was released today. There is a section under accidental damage, and yes some minor things will be covered, but this is far from Omega covering everything.

Yeah, you can pay for a new bezel from Omega. I don't think Omega messes with bezels so it'd be replaced during a regular service anyway at this point. You're AD might help minimize it, they might make you pay, they may send it for paid repair. An independent might spot refinish or maybe refinish the entire thing. If this tiny imperfection bothers you this much, I guarantee you will notice the refinished spot or bezel compared to the rest of the watch. Servicing or repair always risks poorer performance or other imperfections being picked up. The factory finish cannot be recreated in small part and it will always standout. The options are complete replacement, refinish the bezel which will look different than the rest of the watch, refinish the spot which will surely be noticed, or just wear it.

That scratch can certainly be fixed, but more scratches, dents and scuffs will happen as you wear the watch. If you can’t live with the scratch and want it fixed, MAKE sure that you have it repaired either by Omega or an independent who knows what they are doing. Either way, it’s likely to cost more for the repair than you think.

Tough love - unless you are capable of being more careful with the watch, it's probably best to cultivate more tolerance of minor damage.

I'd be more concerned with the cockeyed date wheel. Get that taken care of under warranty and they might fix the bezel free at that time.

Two years ago I ran my brand new Silver Snoopy into a door striker at home. That was a very dark day although my wife, who bought it for me, shrugged and said that well loved things get dinged up. After that scratching it again it was no big deal. And I have.

Omega will refinish this at service. They don;t replace them unless there's real damage or the customer requests it, and it would cost you to get it replaced.

Best thing is to replace the bezel. But you don’t have to do it immediately. You can wait and the result will be exactly the same as replacing now. So why spend now? Wait and see whether it picks up new scratches also you may feel differently about this 3-6 months down the line.

This is an easy fix for Omega or any other competent watchmaker to refinish.

Look at the bright side of things, how many have a ding in the shape of a smiling face on their bezel? Should sell for a premium.
