Interestingly, I bought a Seamaster Pro in 2013 from a guy on Ebay who had purchased it new from Mappin & Webb a couple of years ealier. He still had the original receipt, box and cards. I was pleased with my purchase until I noticed that the serial nos on the cards didn't match the watch! I spoke to him a number of times and returned the watch and got my money back and he seemed genuinely upset that Mappin and Webb did this to him. I wonder if it was also a fake? Original Ebay pictures attached

Cards may not match the watch, but that watch isn't fake, IMHO.

In that case, then there must be at least another one of these floating round with the wrong cards from Mappin and Webb!

Glenn, you state the Omega was bought from M&W in Kingston a couple of years before 2013. Did Mappin & Webb re-open in Kingston after shutting their store there years earlier? I used to live in the Kingston area and moved away in 2009 and they shut down long before then. My last visit to the Town was in September 2014, before leaving the UK and it wasn't there then either! Premature closure as it turned out. I bought a watch from them in the 90's!

Edit - apologies to Glenn, he didn't say it was purchased at Kingston, but the headed notepaper is headed 'Kingston'.

Mappin & Webb is a top line chain & I think it is owned by Watches of Switzerland. It's hard to imagine that they have supply that is not direct from Omega.

I can see that an employee might put a watch in the wrong box or use the wrong cards, but not that a fake would be put into their stock.

As others have said, the service centre & their staff are the most obvious weak link here.

Hi Caller, sorry, I only know what the seller told me at the time. Like I said, he did seem genuinely upset at the time and gave me my money back straight away. Just made me feel nervous about buying a watch with non-matching cards!

M&W in Kingston shut long before 2011. I remember heading back to the store as I needed a new strap for the watch I had purchased there and was surprised to find the store shut, but it was only a small store. I bought my watch in 1996 and I think it closed in the early 2000's. It was at the time, the best shop in town, now there are several good watch stores there. Funnily enough, I'll be staying in the area in a few weeks time when I head back to the UK for a couple of weeks. Ernest Jones have an Omega 'boutique' there, along with Breitling. The rest of their range is sold from a separate store.
