Finally recieved my Seamaster which I won on Ebay which was sold on by a company dealing with House clearances. The price was cheap but the photographs on the listing were blurred. Here's the reason why...

Can't tell if it's rust, chocolate or shit (not going to try tasting it ).

Thanks to OF members previous threads on cleaning watches I have now invested in a ultrasonic cleaner.

It's called "wrist cheese". 馃槻

And I'm going to state the obvious, remove the movement before dunking in the ultrasonic.

Normally this dirt is an indicator for originallety and good conditon.

This will turn out well says my gut feeling

Gold furniture (is it?), coathanger S and cross hair - wow!

Champagne color dial also?

What did you pay?

The watch could clean up quite nicely. The case appears to be in good shape and a skilled watchmaker could probably clean some of the dirt off the dial without causing any damage.

With all the wrist cheese it's tempting just to stuck the whole watch in

Could turn out to be great. Hopefully the bill from the watchmaker is not too bad. You will have to account for the bio-hazard disposal fee.

Before doing anything else, seal it in a ziplok bag along with a few dung beetles and see if they start making balls... If not, then it's okay to handle the watch.

Glad I made the purchase of the Ultrasonic cleaner. Carried out 4 cycles but the buildup inbetween the links needed further brushing with a soft bristle toothbrush. After another 4 cycles the parts came out great!
