Seamaster Diver 300m date function broke down after 5 days

Hi 馃憢

I bought an Omega Seamaster Diver 300m and it failed to move the date after 5 days. I thought it was adjusted wrongly. And waited for few days, the same happened. When I tried to change time by moving the clock, it changed the date at 11:52pm.

Omega store did everything not to replace it. They told me it was for the first time. They followed their training book. Now it will be at service for two months.

Did anyone experience this before? Or I am super unlucky?

I had it only for 8 days.
I completely get it. If I bought a new Omega and it was defective I would be disappointed and bummed. However, since they're standing behind the warranty I would be relieved. I suppose if they replaced the watch that would have been above and beyond since you purchased the watch 8 days ago.

I had the same problem with date stopped changing after about 1 year of usage. They covered it under warranty within 2 weeks. I have no problems ever since (6 years already).

It's not completely unheard of. My Seamaster Pro midsize with Calibre 1120 developed the same problem in 2019, about 10 months after it was serviced by Omega. The date wheel kept getting stuck and wouldn't tick over at midnight. Luckily it was still under a service warranty so it was quickly rectified free of charge, and the service warranty was extended by another two years. Can't fault their customer service. Touch wood, I haven't had the problem since.

Whilst Omega are standing by their warranty, I would also be pissed if my eight day old watch was being sent away for two months due to a manufacturing defect. Surely a replacement wouldn鈥檛 be too much to ask in these circumstances.

I don't think it will take 2 months, Omega gives priority to these sort of warranty cases, the OB/AD just underpromise.

Store said it is at least 8 weeks. 12 days just for the diagnosis.

If it was 2-3 years later, I would understand. But 8 days, it started in 5th day. The store was shocked as well. Now I negotiating for other options. A very disappointing situation.

I know it is not fair but tech firms sometimes take these mistakes much better than luxury brands. Of course I compare apples with oranges.

Thanks for all your feedback, means a lot in this unpleasant situation.

I can definitely understand your disappointment in buying a new watch that malfunctioned and now it might be a few weeks before you can start wearing it regularly and even then, having that feeling that it will now be a repaired watch.

If it helps, think about it this way:
You bought a watch with a unique serial number. Analogize it to buying a car with a unique VIN. If the car's engine fails a week after you bought it, the dealer will repair it and replace the defective parts. They won't just swap it for a different car. Definitely a killjoy on the new car experience, but that's how it is.

My situation is covered my UK consumer law. I worked in car industry, in some cases they even replaced or give a full refund. Swatch Group is going through the process but I don鈥檛 think I will be happy to have the same watch again.

I'm in the U.S., where it's not that simple. With regard to motor vehicles, we have what are known as lemon laws. Car has to go back at least a half-dozen times for repair of the same components before it's eligible for replacement or refund.

At least in the US, OBs have a 10-day return policy, so you could have used that here. That said, while unfortunate and obviously disappointing, this is something that will be fixed. My warranty experience is about a month each time.
