Let me start by saying I know nothing about Omega watches (or any watches). I wear a $50 Timex. I got this from my dad today and I'm just looking for info in general. I know its been in his drawer for the last 20 years and it still works. I was pretty surprised. 20180313_201323[1].jpg 20180313_201659[1].jpg 20180313_201419[1].jpg 20180313_201627[1].jpg

It looks like there is dropouts in the lettering in the photos but there isn't. The case is just pretty scratched up.

Looks to be a nice American cased (Jonell) 14K Gold Filled Seamaster De Ville, 1970ish.

The dating of the watch is done by the movement number. You can get that from your watchmaker when you take it in for a service.

Nice original unmolested watch, should clean up nicely.

Get it serviced before wearing it, even if it seems to run OK.

Thanks, guys. I'll go to the watch repair shop tomorrow and see what the damage is. Fingers crossed!

The words "watch repair shop" don't fill me with confidence where vintage Omegas are concerned. It will need servicing anyway if you want to wear it, in which case find a suitably experienced watchmaker and just send it straight to him / her.

You might want to consider swapping the bracelet for a leather strap as the bracelet that's currently on the watch can scratch/damage the lugs. As others have noted, it will clean up nice!

Don't throw the bracelet away. It looks original, risk of damage probably minor.

There is currently a watch that looks remarkably like this one for sale on ebay. I don't know why, but I bid on it, and it's kind of a lot, I get VA and SS. I never gave it a thought 'til i looked here, and now I'm terrified! Is there a way to get the pictures to here? I'm not that up on computers, (I'm 70). Is there a way to get advice on this? Does anyone watch ebay for fraud, or do you have to get burned to find out? Thanks for any help, I don't think this question belongs here, but as I said, the pictures are amazingly similar, the watch I'm looking at is engraved (name) 25 years Quaker Oats Company. It didn't show the works. Thanks for any help, bear with me, I'll learn what to do here, hopefully.
