SEAMASTER COSMIC

Good day to all OF members. After joining recently I've been researching so much into de forum but still too green to make certain decissions before asking. I already own a classic gold vintage piece, which I intend to present properly in the forum, by the way, and have been looking for a vintage steel Omega. Already checked a lot of them and the forum reading has been helping me to understand my preferences and taste. I found the Seamaster Cosmic of the pictures below. I've had a crush with the watch, love the look, bracelet, period when it was built, etc. It fits totally my expectations but I'm aware there may be objective issues to take into account and I'm asking for your expert advice. Seller claims its in good shape and works well. No reference of known service or maintenance. No pictures of the movement available. I cant neither have it in my hands as I'm far from seller's hometown so I guess this would a -leap of faith- buy. Price asked is 550 euros. I would really appretiate any thoughts given the information and pictures availabl e. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. It will be hard to make a very detailed analysis of the watch due to the poor pictures. I do not see any obvious flaws but, there appears to be something wrong with the compression ring. The pics appear to indicate something is not fitting right (gaps). It could be parallax or it could bad pictures too. Price is in the proper zone.

Many thanks @kingsrider for help. Another issue maybe bracelet length. Seller will check if it could fit my 18.5 cm wrist and get back to me. In case is not enough are spare links reasonably easy to find for that bracelet?

Bracelet is not an original combination:

The watch is a ref. 166.026 (166.0026).
Ex factory metal bracelet types were 1068, 1098, 1125 or 1172.

Whereas the bracelet attached here is an 1193, with even a wrong clasp (1286.249.1) attached to it.

Correction: As I can read out from your pictures, the watch is ref. 166.023 (166.0023), not 166.026 (166.0026). - Case and dial look the same, but might have a different kind of movement inside (might be cal. 562 instead of cal. 565). Sorry for confusion.

Ex-factory metal bracelet for this one would have been type 1037.

So still, also in this case the metal bracelet you have here is not the kind it should be.

Yet if you like the style, why not. But I'd be careful if it's advertised as all original.

Wow, so grateful for such thorough impressions. I think i will negotiate a bit based on your help and take a leap of faith despite issues mentioned as I really like the style and so far the options I have checked have as much uncertaincies for me as this one but with much higher prices. I'm a bit worried bracelet length could be limit for my wrist. Are extra links for 1193 bracelet something reasonably easy to find and purchase? Cheers

It seems like two are available on eBay. See here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174297646428

@Rdelgao if you need more than one link let me know - I currently have the full bracelet for sale for less than what two spare links would cost with shipping in the eBay auction. It’s the same style bracelet, also with a 1286.249 clasp but without stamped end links (which you have), so I’m not sure what’s going on there but since you like the looks I thought I’d mention it. Hope the “self-promotion” is ok in this case 😁

Hope everything will turn out to be fine and meet your expectations. By the way, as this is not an integrated kind of bracelet-case-connection, you might worst case also wear the watch on a leather strap to start with, and solve any metal bracelet issues by and by unhurriedly.

Finally made a deal with seller and thanks to your help guys with the precise information that you provided got a significant discount.
I really love the watch it seems to be in good condition. Its smaller than I thought with 33.5 mm (crown excluded). It was claimed to be 36mm but that included the crown. I didnt pay attention to that, still a lot to learn but no big issue. Crystal is not omega signed so I guess its aftermarket. I'm planning to use it often so when it gets a few scratches and need a replacement I'll go for an original one. Movement keeps time really well. I'm planning to take it to watchmaker to open it and see what and how its inside. Bracelet size is limit but will refit it with the help of @MtV who offered his spare bracelet wich I already ordered to him. Thanks guys for help
