Do you think the below dial is original?

It’s a bumper movement but haven’t been able to open it to confirm caliber (35*), year, or case reference (2577?). I’ve seen these same markers on a model from 1952 so that would be my best guess.

At first glance it looks good.. some concerns:
    1) Coathanger “S”with the flat top - I had thought this came on later models? Perhaps a service dial?
    2) “A” in Omega has slightly flat top, I think should be pointed?
    3) Very slight uneven spacing - for example the 6 o’clock marker seems slightly closer to the hash mark to the left

    Thanks in advance

The "Automatic" is drifting downwards left to right and the dial is suspiciously clean for it's age. Lugs look nice though

Dial looks OK to me. It’s the case that worries me. Not sure of the model. Could be a US made case.

@gatorcpa what concerns you about the case? The case back is unusual but I’ve seen others like it.

I haven’t opened it because a rubber ball isn’t doing the job and I’m hesitant to use a wrench given I plan to return it if theres reasonable belief it’s a redial.

Dial also looks fine to me. I think another shot of the case in natural light would be helpful. It looks like a heavily worn gold plated case to my eyes, particularly with that crown.

Here is a project of mine for comparison, this has a pointed A in omega, but I have seen them with a flat top too

I'll take some better case photos later. The case and crown are in very good shape - looks bad in those photos because of lighting and it has some tarnish on the gold.

Sounds like dial very well may be original..

It’s likely a cal. 351 or 354, but no clue on the case reference. I don’t like surprises.

Take the watch to a watchmaker with the proper tools to open it.

    All will be revealed.

Case should be a 2577-2X - it has blockier lugs and a different caseback style from the 2577-X cases.

In my research on case references I stumbled upon a Seamaster with the same dial combination and fonts from our very own @No Mercy - seems the dial is fine.

Regarding the case, I found several similar examples and as @kyle L just mentioned, it seems to be the style for 2577-2* case references (-22, -23, -24 in the examples I found). See here: 2577-22, 2577-23, 2577-24

Regardless, I’ll get it opened up and share photos of both the case and the movement/case back.

Thanks all for the help thus far.

Thanks! It has been sitting in my watch box for ages because of lack of funds for servicing. I've toyed with selling it, but I am too much of a fan of the dial

Case condition is nice in my opinion. I assume the tarnish is a good sign it hasn’t been polished in at least a very long time.

Dial only has a couple small specs above Seamaster. Lume on 10 and 11 markers and hands has darkened.

With a little more air in the rubber ball, the back came right off. As suspected, it’s a 2577-22 reference with a 354 movement. Dates to 1952/53. Movement is very clean and I don’t see any service marks on the case back..

Separate question for everyone - is it recommended to use a Blitz jewelry cloth to remove the tarnish? Any fear of dulling edges/facets?
