Well, here it is--my first EBay purchase.

I like it...but it is true that the printing on the dial is not of the highest quality. Also the seller's photos missed the small patch of rust where the lower left lug meets the case. Also, though not well shown in my photo, the seller's photo missed the pock mark on the bezel between 2 o'clock and 3 o'clock. Perhaps I am too fastidious. (I've included the seller's photo below mine.)

I don't really have a lot of experience opening cases, so I probably won't do that, unless people think that's important to do.

By looking at the lugs, it's a 2757 with a snap caseback, powered by a 355.

Here are photos of the movement and the inside of the case back from the seller. Thanks so much for looking... Is this a 355 or a 353, as the seller claimed

    Regards,

I'd say it is a 353 as that is what is inscribed on the movement.

Indeed, no swan neck regulator I believe means 353 as well

I just can't see the "353" on the movement...where is it?

    Thanks so much,
    Jon

Omega lies, some of the transitional early ones came with 353s . Just like the some of the late 2627s came with 355, as you noted. In fact, Omega did some mixing of the two different date windows as well, just to keep things really confused. And what do you think they did with early service work as they considered these the same watch for service::facepalm2::

Obscured by the oscillating weight, on the right, just above the ratchet wheel.

    Cicindela,

Now that you point it out, I can see it...thank you so much. Thank you for your help on the possible originality of this movement to this watch.

    Regards,
    Jon

Or if you don't speak watch, it's inside the red circle:

I'm curious to know what you paid because I have some reservations about the movement. The different color of the rotor and base plate compared to the bridges makes me very skeptical it's original. The dial has been refinished as somebody (Hoi?) said early but must have edited out. If you paid less than $225-ish it's not bad though.

    ULackFocus,

I'm afraid I paid too much on this watch...$510 + $10.70 shipping...live and learn. In the future, I will post possible purchases here before bidding...

    Regards,
    Jon

No worries Jon. I did worse on my first vintage Omega purchase - a total franken job of a Constellation pie pan. Live & learn is the best way to look at it. The good thing is if/when you do start getting more watches some of these can be used for parts then.

Do keep in mind Dennis is quoting collector value which is purely dependent on originality, as for daily wearing, walking around with a really nice looking watch, $500 buys you a pretty ordinary fashion watch, so as far as that goes, having a Cal 353 bumper automatic Seamaster, even with a refinished dial, you've done way better than any Versace, or Hugo Boss, or any other mens department store brand.

Ashley has a good point. I have a watch or two I sank way too much money into, but my justification was (a) it was worth it to resue a fine piece of horological machinery and (b) a new model in the same metal from the same brand would cost 3 or 4 times more.

It looks like you made up for this one with that groovy Cosmic C-case. I dig those.

Over 15 "date@6" gone thru my hands and I would not buy a 2757 with a 353 in it. (and it takes me 10 minutes to switch )

    That would be the safest.
