Hi all!
Someone is selling this on a pre-owned app (S. Korea). I don't intend to buy; I would rather an 861 in this style for its relative ease of servicing. But I wonder if there are good indications in the pics about authenticity, redial, excessive polishing etc... its looks almost too clean, especially on the case flank, and that dial is also maybe a little too good. What do you think? No movement shots unfortunately.

I have one of these, and when I was on the hunt I saw lots of dials; some good, some bad. I’m not a giant expert, and I’ll certainly wait for others, but I think this dial is okay.

On the other hand, it seems to me that your concerns with the case are warranted. Looks as if it’s been very polished, and maybe recut. See if you can find images of the same reference to compare.

Personally, I would pass on this one.

The pics are not great, but the hands have lume and the dial not.
Big red flag.

Dial has lume - see the little squares on the end of the markers

Right, it looks like the hands don't match the indices on the dial. It seems from pics of other seamasters of this kind, hands like these match with the triangular shaped indices, whereas the proper hands for this dial would seem to be the straighter baton hands. Good. I'm trying to improve my vintage problem spotting.

IMO the hands and dial combo are fine. It looks like a nice watch to me.

You might be right, I see most of them as reflections of sloped markers.
Easy to check if you have the watch in hands.

This looks like a fine example to me. Perhaps it may have been polished but nothing crazy. Redials - full or partial - I've seen on this era of Seamaster + DeVille chronographs usually get the Tachy and the subdials off by having too much ink and therefore printing heavier weighted typefaces.

This should be a ref. 105.001. There might be lume on the end of the indices but it is hard to tell from those pics. Lume will be radium on this reference.
Cheers

I’m revising my opinion that this watch is a pass.

The case polishing would bother me, but I’d say it’s a buy if the price is right, seller checks out, etc.

These are not easy to find in good condition at a reasonable cost.

Is it perhaps this one here? Case seems to have been polished a bit and the missing lume filled in the hands, but the dial has some correlated spots/specks and missing paint…

@eugeneandresson yes this one does have the same oddly cut lugs. The dials on the 105.001 examples that others posted match, but the lugs seemed to be cut much straighter. The listed price is in the ballpark of 4g US. I don't want the 321 servicing hassle, so unless the movement is tip top and price is right, I don't intend to buy, tho it is rare for one of these to come up in this region.

The rarity of the Seamaster 105.001 in South Korea ? Collecting has no borders, sometimes in areas where no one would expect they have beautiful specimens
