Yes, but the correct size and a decent quality item can go a long way to minimize marring.
The bergeon screwdrivers. You could get the pack of 5 https://www.esslinger.com/bergeon-set-of-five-swiss-watchmakers-screwdrivers-in-pouch/
Then a bracelet holder https://www.esslinger.com/bergeon-watch-band-bracelet-holder-block-6744-p/
Then the loctite threadlocker before tightening the bolts back in. I use Loctite 222.
Heat the bracelet with hairdryer to loosen the previous threadlocker before unscrewing.
I've had a couple of instances where the screw came loose on bracelets. Both watches bought preowned, I guess the dealer/previous owner didn't use threadlocker. So now I trust myself more than most shops.
Try a good hardware store. They usually have jeweler screwdriver kits. A steady hand, like others mentioned--or a shot of whisky--should help.
Other option is a local watch store. For $10 they'll adjust it to your liking (remove, replace, remove, replace...until you're happy).
I've got wonky wrist bones so I have double the links on the 12 side compared to the 6. My AD was so confused when I wanted my new 3861 fit. I ended up giving them the virtual finger and sizing it myself at home. I digress...any AD will adjust your watch for free--they're under contract to do so, I believe.
The closest AD is Jared..... and I think they lost their designation.....
Yes, took it to Jared… they confirmed they are no longer AD and could not touch my 300MC.
Lady said “…oh, I’m sorry, I thought you had a regular watch, I can’t touch an Omega…”
I’m a bit of a caveman with 10 non-opposable thumbs….
