If the watch has a 24,71x then I think most certainly it was not delivered to the RN.

IMO it is most likely a W10 army issued watch if everything else checks out.

However, it's very unlikely if this is the case it shipped with that dial or crown so this decreases it's slim chance of never being issued and adds weight to the fact the caseback has been sterilised.

Do not understand. Did Royal Navy ordered single movements and cases or complete watches?
If this movement with no. 24.71...ordered by Royal Navy, then Omega will confirm: Delivered to Royal Navy?
Thanks.

I understand that the original Omega engravings have been milled down. But I cannot believe that the fat, deep Military marking have been milled down. In my opining the caseback is too fat and would be much thinner if milled down These deep figures.
The thin engraving prior mid 1970 is only about 0,2 mm wide and the fat post mid 1970 only about 0,4 mm. Being honest I have never measured the deepness but it should not be significantly deeper than wide. So milling down 0,5 mm will remove all markings I would say. So the caseback still has plenty of flesh then.

As greenecollectors says... if the S/N is 2471xxxx it cannot be delivered to the Navy, if any it has been delivered to the Army. And than it should have a trapezoid dial and Naiad crown to keep that watchmakers story alive of the "never touched" watch. I think his story is lacking some credibility.

Agreed.

Photo of my watch to try and indicate depth of the engravings.

There is easily enough material to remove them.

Our caseback is a CB. No idea if all casebacks are the same size or slightly different. The one on the pic looks thicker compared to ours.
