Or get the Speedy first because it doesn't change, and reap the benefits of depreciation on the SM300 MC.

Do you think it will depreciate more? I've already seen them at quite low prices.

I have a 300M as well as a 3592.50. I hope for my next watch to be a 300. Out of all of my watches, four Rolexes and four Omegas, I wear the 300M the most. Don't sell it, you will regret it. The gloss ceramic dial is killer and it is a very comfortable watch on the wrist.

My advice is to add the 300 first. The Speedy is going to stay, but who knows with the 300.

Tough decision. If I could only own two watches it would be these two. I'm fortunate to own both and I've found myself wearing the 300mc more than the Speedy, but I don't think I like one more than the other.

If you're willing to buy used 3570's (the previous model number for the Speedmaster) can be bought for really good prices. That could speed up the savings for the 300mc.

Daily wear or not wouldn't affect "my" choice for automatic vs manual wind. They are sure are very different watches for comparison.

its really down to diver vs (space) chrono, modern movement vs robust tried-n-true movement, new vs old. Look at the rest of your collection and see which one will compliment it more.

If its my money, I would do Speedmaster first, then maybe a titanium 300MC to give it more variety.

Speculating on resale is a sure fire way to overspend on a collection. However, I am VERY certain the Speedy Pro will not be discontinued anytime soon, and with each year/updated reference #, the older ones get a slight uptick in price. This hasn't quite happened to the 3570.50 yet, but it will down the line.

Purely out of my own opinion, I think the 300MC still has a bit more to drop before it hits a depreciation plateau. Seeing how Omega is moving more and more watches to MC status, this can either hurt or help the 300MC's resale value. My guess is hurt it slightly due to increased options. Ultimately who knows?

Given that the OP already has the SMPc, without any speculation, I would still recommend a Speedy to diversify his collection. Either way, both are great watches and you can't go wrong with either.

Hi all. Long time lurker first time poster. I recently bought my first Omega (Seamaster 300M Diver) and have caught the Omega bug. Looking to add my next piece to my collection and having a hard time deciding between a Seamaster 300 (233.30.41.21.01.001) and a Speedy Moonwatch (311.30.42.30.01.006). I know I will likely own both one day but currently it is an either or. Any thoughts from the forum on which watch and why? My only pause is the manual wind on the Speedy but only because it won't be my daily wear.

I'd say it makes even more sense as it won't be your daily wear watch. Daily wear watch, you might want something that can take more of a beating and have some water resistance. Personally, a moonwatch is more of a special occasion watch that should be babied (I'm sure others will disagree). My daily wear watch is a quartz seamaster--I don't worry about smacking it into things with regularity 😉

Very good point. I think I am going to end up buying the SM300 first but with all the Moonwatch deals out there to be had that could change at any second. Damn this habit is expensive.

I would be inclined to go with the SM300. I don't know about total units produced, but I am guessing there are much less of the 300's.

It's an expensive hobby with no end. Even after you get that first standard moonwatch, eventually you'll find another with a fancy dial, and then you'll start your moonwatch-specific journey 😀

I've done my homework on lower-end moonwatches, and with luck you can pick up a used sample at auction in the $1800-$2000 range (ebay). You might want to setup an alert on slickdeals, as I've seen grey market deals for standard moonwatches ($3300), seamasters ($2600), and PO's ($3600) pop up every month or so. Fortunately, I don't care for the look of the newer seamasters--I love the Brosnan-era blue bond seamasters, and they can be acquired at reasonable rates.

I wear the SM300 nearly every day and love it on the wrist. I went back and forth through the same decision when I purchased it and don't regret it at all.

I collect divers and chronographs but I would choose the speedmaster for sure.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts! It helped greatly and in the end I went with the SM300 Master. I bought it from Chitownwatch and literally just got it in. Ultimately the sheer amount of Speedy variations and longevity of the design pushed me to the SM300. I will pick up a Speedy in the next year or so which gives me plenty of time to research all the models and buy the one I love the most.

I recently purchase the SM Prof. with the hesalite chrystal on the SS bracelet and could not be more happy. It's an incon that will NEVER go out of style. It IS the style. As for the manual wind, I think it's great. It forces you to interact with your watch in a way that you otherwise wouldn't do. It becomes a part of your daily routine. I wind mine once a day right when I wake up. It's a great tradition that reminds me of how cool the timepiece really is.

Well done! You'll love it. I've worn mine regularly for the past year and a half since getting it from the same source as yours. Post some pics when you get it on the wrist!

Look over that watch like a hawk and make sure it's actually new

100% brand new. Purchased from an EU AD with a March 2017 Date stamp. Serial matches card. I did my research on sellers and Chitown has an exceptional track record. Very happy with my purchasing decision.
