Seamaster 300... or 120?

Hi, I've recently picked up this Seamaster, if that's what it is... as a curiosity and maybe a project. The hands look new and the wrong shape, and the dial seems more Rolex in design than Omega but my struggle here is whether it's a 300 or a 120. Case is 43mm, calibre 552, no date. Caseback says 166.073. I attach pictures and would appreciate opinions, ideas etc. Could this be a service dial from Omega?

This was just a loose case that somebody used to build a watch. None of the internals correspond to the reference.

Yep. Dial is repainted and I’m not sure those hands ever came on an Omega. Case is also in poor shape. Hope the OP did not pay much for this!

Interesting combo there- Cushion case is unmistakably the seamaster 120 deep blue 166.073 that to my knowledge only came with date on a quickset cal 565 movement.

Your movement is consistent with that of a SM300 but that serial is so early it predates my SM 14755-61 which had an 18.5m serial- so that movement could be late 50s.

There certainly is value in the parts if you are patient and willing to tear it down (i was chasing a 166.073 bezel for ages and was prepared to pay!) but as a functioning watch, it is sad to see how that 166.073 was butchered

The bakelite bezel is in decent condition. I can't tell if it is black or dark blue- If dark blue try and source a cal 565 movement (they are fairly common- if serial 30-34m even better for period correctness) and a luminova 166.073 service dial (originals tritiums in good condition are like hens teeth) and then, set on an aftermarket BOR bracelet and you have a really cool watch!

If bakelite is black then either this is a case of a VERY rare IDF military style 166.073 or someone has put a seamster 300 bakelite in a seamster 120 bezel housing. The sad thing is that the bezels are not interchangeable- i learned to my detriment...

Thanks for the advice! Bezel is dark blue. I like the suggestion on the bracelet; it's time to think it through.
