Because they are lighter, vintage omega bracelets feel cheap.. They are anything but cheap.. Modern omega bracelets are made in China? Maybe stronger but the old ones are more than capable of doing their intended function and have a handmade feel of quality.. You don't need weight if you use fine steel made well like your example.. You would be downgrading IMO.

I certainly hadn't thought of it that way, so thanks for the insight!

These heavy duty Staib bracelets are superb German engineering, very classy. I have one a 2998.5 and it gets comments from non watch people, they are noticing the strap not the rare timepiece !

Thanks! I’ll take a look at those. I alternate it between a couple of NATO’s and the bracelet. I love the look of it on a bracelet though, and it’s getting a lot more wrist time since the switch, even with a bracelet I’m not that keen on, so I’d like to get one that feels a bit more substantial.

Hi,
I would suggest to use a 90s bracelet for Moonwatch Speedy!
They are really solid, good looking and even cheap (you should be able to find a 1479/812 around 400€).
If you want the same look of the 1171 there is the solid, beautiful and rare 1450/808 then..It could be a good choice even if expansive because you can use it and then sell it for part at the same value you pay for because of its huge demand (the same for 1479 one)!
You should survive viewing Speedmaster engraving on the clasp..if not you can always polish it, but then you loose value..
Hope this could help ;-)

Cheers
😀

To get the vintage look and avoid paying for the older and very expensive ones, you could get one of these replica flat link bracelets and pair it with Omega 633 end links (need filing to fit) or Omega no. 516 / 16s (Fit bracelet perfectly)
Looking on ebay that would cost approx £272 + £52 : £324 ($434, €366)

Regarding quality the listing states -
"Build quality is even a notch up from the 7912 and 1039 Omega bands shown only for comparison here. The unsigned band weighs 35 grams vs. 31 grams for the Omega bands."

An alternative is more modern bracelet and parts. You can source a used 1610 bracelet and change the end pieces from 930 to 840 or 849, which are intended for the Speedmaster.

Contact me if you want to pursue this idea.
