Hi guys, i'm looking at buying a 2254.50. It had a full Omega service in Feb of this year. Omega changed the dial and hands during the service. Is this perceived to be a good thing or a bad thing on a 2001 watch?

These models always had luminova on the dial and hands, so I would say changing these parts has zero affect on value. I would be curious why they were changed though - was it water intrusion? If Omega really did do the servicing (ask for proof of that) then I would assume that even if the watch was flooded at some point they would have fixed all that.

    Cheers, Al

Looks very different from the sort of invoice you would see here, so I have no idea if this is legit or not. They kept the dial for inspection? I am assuming it had some sort of fault then?

Raises more questions that it answers for me, but as long as the watch looks okay then I see no reason not to purchase it if the price is right.

    Cheers, Al

This watch won't have collector value for 20+ years, if ever. So getting new kit with a full service can only be a good thing. Fabulous Seamaster- super legible at a glance, something I prize highly.

They already often sell for more than they were new....I would say they already have some collector value.

I thought it was not so much collectibility as simple appreciation. Maybe that's the same thing. I'm not a collector so my perspective is that of an outsider looking at broad trends rather than specifics.

    They're definitely already collector pieces.

Remember this model was retired in 2007 and not replaced, this matters from the POV of collectability/desirabiity. As Al says, a new dial on a SL piece like this is indistinguishable from an original dial since there should be no deterioration so isn't really an issue. I have bought 2 of these, one I flipped for I think £1,550 to raise some ST funds and the later one I will keep and see what happens since they are hot property. Blake SMPs are a modern design classic, not as flashy or obvious as a Sub but a classic all the same.

Yep, primary reason despite not wearing it a ton that I still have my 2232.30 around:

Though I think this model is a bit more flashy than a Sub. [emoji23]

I have posted this before so apologies for the repetition but here is an expression of my love for this design, the GMT has now moved on but it wasn't a pure SMP anyhow so doesn't truly belong in this exalted company. I was playing fast and loose with straps and bracelets so don't assume that these are mongrels, they are not.

I don't own one, but I often have a gathering in the shop of various SMP's...

I suspect one of these days I'll end up with a 22545000, or another model with sword hands...the trouble is deciding which one to get.

    It is known. [emoji23]

Yep, I've gone through similar. Had 2231.50, 2231.80, 2254.50, wife currently wears 2255.80, even did a PlanPro for a bit, and had the AC model as well (really miss that one sometimes).

    Also got a NOS 2220.80 in 2015 that's still under warranty. [emoji16]

I've always wanted the Great White GMT, but the bezels are a bit goofy with the big font.

Yep I was on the hunt for a great white and titanium but now both of those are knocking on the door of £2000 I have decided to not bother. The GMT didn't really excite, the extra thickness made it feel a little clumsy and compromised next to the 3 handers. I do like the PO 2201.50 though which wears its 13.5mm girth better somehow so will keep that one I think.

As stated luminova to identical luminova dial and hands is not going to affect value.

My first thought was identical to @Archer. Why? Water damage?

If price is right then I also see no issues.

That is legit UK boutique paperwork, I have some exactly the same for a purchase so I should think that the service checks out as they would have used Swatch Southampton for the work. If there was water damage then it should have been sorted even if it meant substantial parts replacement. I don't think there is anything to worry about with this. That said, it may just be the picture, but do the hands and dial look to be a slightly different colour? On every 2254 or 55 I have seen, all the lume should match. Not so on the tritium 2531s but that is a different animal.
